The rears on the originals were the same length as the original fronts. ;)

Clutches?

Can you guys share your thoughts on what brand of clutches you are running in the 8t and whether 3 shoe or 4 shoe. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I myself like a 4 shoe clutch, easy to work on. I run the losi with 4 AL shoes and silver springs.

3-shoe from Hot Bodies is what I've been using the past two years. I use the Kingheadz extended engine mounts so the top blocks can be flipped around to use a 3-shoe setup.

For clutch bells I use any that are under $15. Great setup for my use.

The losi clutches are super good four show with m2c or kingheadz shoes

I alwaysiked the kHz 6061 shoes I like them a little softer they grab harder. But the kHz 7075 work well too. But always on the losi 4 shoe clutch

Your temps are too high for just putting around. If you leave it at recommended setting (factory) it will start to lean bog once you really start to open up the engine. Trust me I been through this before. :)

Just got my RTR and the book says 2 1/2 on both needles, they were set to 3 1/4 LSN and 5 1/2 on the HSN. Super rich and was spitting raw fuel from the start up and woudn't accerate without dieing. Leaned a little at a time and now the break in is going good, still rich but not pouring out of the exhaust anymore. Book is wrong but so was the stock needle settings out of the box.

Clutch question on what came stock,

2 aluminum shiny shoes
2 aluminum blue shoes
2 gold springs
2 silver springs

Is this normal for an RTR? On Losi's chart in the manual, this is set up #9 of 10 so almost the most aggressive. Seems a bit over the top for an RTR. I'll drive it this way for now, we'll see how it does on the track.

I just got my RTR about 6 months ago, and mine came the exact same way. WAY richer than the stock settings in the manual. I actually called horizon hobbies and asked about it. They said they ship them richer than stock settings, so people don't break in with too lean of a setting. So you are good.

And with the clutch setup that it came with, was the same as mine. It actually works really well with that set up. You might think it sounds a bit aggressive, but that setting paired with the 454 and the stock gearing of 13/50, it's pretty good. If you get a new engine, you may want to switch to some softer springs. I got a B5, and had to go down to green/gold springs. I still run two silver and two blue shoes though.

See my original post above.

Ok, I see. What exactly are the benefits to running plastic shoes? Don't they wear out really fast?
