i just started having runaways! i can run practice then charge it,then run a qualifier then charge it,and then usually during the 2nd qualifier it starts glitching...but i start to notice my steering starts glitching first then 5 mins later or even sooner the throttle goes wide open so i always get to it before it actually runs from me!i have a REEDY 1600mah nimh hump pack that is a couple months old...a couple racers said it was cause i never let the battery run down before i charge it! i just wanted to completely avoid runaways so after every use i charge it!....is that not good for the hump pack?...somebody else also said it was cause i charge it @ 2 amps instead of 1amp...my manual for my charger says 1500mah-2100mah charges @ 2amps?....is this wrong?
Also, what radio system are you running? Even if it is a bad battery, you shouldn't be having runaways if you're running 2.4 ghz. Set your failsafe on the radio(assuming it is a system with a failsafe as most do now) to neutral throttle and get some rubber bands to use as a throttle return "spring".;) |
i have an airtronics mx-sport 2.4ghz....the failsafe is set cause i can hold it full throttle and turn off my remote and the throttle goes back to nuetrual like its supposed to....i had a spring on it but i took it off cause i didnt want extra stress on my throttle servo seeing as i have a losi 8ight truck and buggy and they already put stress on servos when you hit the brakes...i have the hitec 645mg for throttle

I run a Reedy 1600 in my XXL, lets say I used to. That thing has caused me some grief! I will charge it at .2 amps all night and it will take 1500mAh. I go to use it that day, it works good for a few minutes and then the glitching starts. I put it away, charge again when I get home and it takes in another 1500mAh. It's a leaky bucket! We don't work together anymore...NiMh in general is not reliable IMO. I slow charged (.2amp) a brand new Losi 1400 Hump pack the other night, it took in 1404mAh. Just for fun I hit charge again while I brewed some coffee and two hours later it's still taking more juice. It took in 200 more mAh! That's just too loose for me. Life or Lipo is where it's at.
im goign LiFe. i can't afford to throw away lipo's because of over discharge. now its down to what manufacture. they're aren't many, and only 1 in the US. |
runaway
I had a runaway last weekend and it was because I bound the receiver on another truck and transferred it to the LOSI and had to switch the throttle servo direction. When it went into failsafe mode it went to the position of the original truck - wide open. Reversing the servo direction does not transfer the failsafe position. Rebinding solves this.
When you charge a battery pack - any battery pack material - there are two processes going on. One is adding charge to the active redox species and the other is the electrochemical process of the other species present which is mostly electrolyte and supporting material. If too high of a current is used or too high of a voltage then the current 'passes' the redox species of interest that leads to charging and the electrolyte and supporting material that usually is a destructive process and an irreversible sink for current. Under low current conditions the bulk of current goes into the redox species of interest and a minimal amount goes to the other stuff. The lifetime of the battery decreases with high charging rates because the supporting material is consumed. Its Faraday's law with two electrochemical processes. For LiPO batteries, overcharging causes the supporting material to decompose - the process is converting lithium ions to lithium metal which reacts violently with other stuff in the battery. Under proper charging conditions the lithium is not reduced (or it is reduced and immediately transfers the charge to the redox species of interest). The lithium is intended for charge transport in the battery and is not intended to be a redox species. |
I use little rubber bands by gmk they are great cheap INS. Idc if the radio has a failsafe you can still have a runaway. With a rubbeband it's near impossible.
|
can you put all that into lamens terms? aka english lol

In english - too much current and the dominant thing you charge are not the part of the battery that stores charge but the material supporting the battery which leads to decomposition. Moderate currents will select the charge carrying material. Its best shown with IV-curves and diffusion profiles but that would require a lot more explaining.
Try 200 mA. I would dump the pack, though, batteries are cheap. |
Does anyone have a good alternative to those shock boots?
I get them all teared up every time! I've seen the ones of Kyosho ST-RR and they are indestructible, do they fir on our car? |

Seems cool. They clean the shaft with those hairy mats... Interesting...
Do they weigh much, as they seem to be thick rubber. |

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXTUH5&P=7 i like them i might have to get them for my eight 1.0 t, i do wonder though if the shock cleaners scratch up the shock shafts ? |
