Can someone comment on the build quality of the 8t2.0? I heard the old Losi Eight used to get a bad case of slop. Did they fix that issue with the 2.0 versions?
I am strongly considering buying an 8t2.0 in the next week or so. I now drive an xray 808 and very impressed with the quality of the car, so that is my base of comparison right now. I drove an rc8 most of the year and also considering the rc8t, but to be honest, I found the rc8 to be a little weak in the quality department. That car would break if you looked at it wrong, so the rc8t is a little low on my list now. I like the Losi because it is almost perfectly setup for an electric conversion balance wise. Other than the Losi, I am waiting to see what Xray did to the x8t which they are suppose to announce next week. Thanks. |

well slop really doesn't do anything negative. it actually helps handling. All Losi's get slop. thay all also handle awesome. So if you are really concerned about a lil' slop then maybe losi is not for you. But if you can put that aside you will love the losi.

Slop doesn't really concern me. However, some people seemed to make it seem like it was really sloppy to the point of it being a detriment. Are losi plastics of decent quality? Do the cars break easily? What are known issues with the old 8t? what are the losi quirks?

are people poping the rear shock ballends off because they havent set the droop.
from what i remember of every other losi ready to race, they setup everything except the droop from factory. |
Based on the new 8b 2.0 arms I have in front of me, I'd say Losi has changed the plastic formula a bit. The new arms are alot stiffer than the older ones. Rarely did I see an 8b/t break an arm, but due to the soft plastic, things seemed to wear out quicker. The new arms seem stiffer ( extra webbing possibly, but I don't have an old arm to compare) so that may translate into more broken arms if you hit something.
I aquired both vehicles used a couple years ago, and the slop wasn't that bad. I'm a machinist by trade and because of that, suffer from a little OCD when it comes to tolerances. However, Iv'e seen some people do very well with cars that are so far beyond sloppy it isn't funny. So, I"ve learned to live with a little play in the suspension/steering. |
Getting Closer
|
I would say the quality is getting better and the play is gone between the arms and the inner suspension mounts, it almost appears to be to tight compared to how the 8ight 2.0 came. They included the new "High Endurance" clutchbell in the 8ight T 2.0, a nice change. Im looking forward to see how much longer they last compared to the regular Losi clutchbells. I still wish they sold it as a kit, I miss building it myself.:p

I am surprised the 8T 2.0 was on the second page. No love for my truggy. Here is an updated pic with the body painted. I should be getting my engine this weekend, a GRP .21 Tuned with the pipe. I need that and a receiver and I am set. Can't wait to run this at the track!!! Oh yeah.. the body looks sweet in person. Very sleek.

Nothing like rubbing salt in the wound huh? Thanks. I've got everything except the 2.0.
I"ve got a paint scheme that will go perfectly with those body lines. We'll see if I can pull it off. |
