I want to make mine sc8 to brushless. But is it possible to do this with an 1/10th scale esc and motor running on 1 2Slipo? Or does this not have enough power?

If I'm not mistaken, most brushless setups use a minimum for a 4S lipo. |
Well I am bummed I was suppose to have my first race today with my sc8 but it is raining now and suppose to change over to snow later with about 6 to 8 inch accumulation Oh well next Saturday looks better :)

I wanted to let everyone know that I bought the threaded shock bodies off of ebay for my sc8 front and rear brand new for 15.48 shipped Thought I would share this just in case the guy list some more as I bought the last two sets he had I am just going to use my internals from my stock shocks in these here is a link to what I bought except for way less

If your planning on racing it I would not suggest going electric. I put an electric system on mine just to play with and it blows on the track. Way too much weight up front, and not nearly as fun to drive as the gas on a race track. On the open street however it's pretty fun...with 6S lipo the truck was probably in the 45-50 mph range and drifts at any speed. |

Buy a Mamba Monster system, or a Novak HV system. It does work on 7.4v but it's not very fast.

Not that I am considering a conversion but I was wondering if there is anyway to adjust the weight to be more toward the back I always thought that it looked like they would be well balanced front to back |
i have a tekno brushless conversion and it works great. uses nitro clutch and stock brakes. its much faster then nitro on 4s and i blew all my friends away on the track that had nitro sc8. the electric sc8 is a little heavier but with this kit very well balanced.

Most people says to me thats its more fun driving electric with this because: * You can run about 20minutes on 2 2s lipos. * drifting all the way. * never heared about the weight problem! Here in Europe we do not race with them, just bash it for fun. What do you mean with 'it blows on the track'? Did you use the conversion set of asso? I probably wait to convert mine, because I love the smell of nitro and I'm waiting for the Tekin Rx8 to be released. |

I probably wait to convert mine, because I love the smell of nitro and I'm waiting for the Tekin Rx8 to be released. I converted an 1/8 scale buggy (RC8) and an E-Revo using the Novak HV Pro 5.5 and was very frustrated. I then switched to Mamba Monster v3 and can share that it is currently "the" system to have for 1/8 scale electric. Smooth and very, very powerful! In fact, I have my system (2200KV) dialed way down and still have too much power! The initial cost of electric can be an obstacle when you factor batteries, chargers and power supply, but the operational cost ($ and time) is lower. No fuel, clutch shoes, clutch springs, air filters, fuel line, clutch bell, clutch bell bearings, etc. or oily clean up. Just re-charge and go! The Associated conversion kit for the SC8/RC8/RC8T is dialed. Add a MMM or Tekin, plus a couple of decent lipo's and you're more than competitive with any nitro on the track :) |
Does somebody have a hint on how to remove the glowplug wire? I want to change my glowplug, but I can't unplug the wire to the plug.

I justed grabbed a hold of the black part NOT the red wire and pulled straight up and it came off it is tight but it will come off. When you put it back on the new glow plug line the hex part of the boot back up to the new plug and it should go back on so that it is tight again |
i removed it... completely....to SAVE WEIGHT
J/K i did remove it, once off the plug it never really goes back on right it's only helpful if you're out of tune and have problems keeping the truck running. |

But some of my issues, starting with the bad; You only get 20 minutes on a set of batteries. Takes an hour or more to charge them and requires two chargers to do it quickly (or a charger that does 2 at once.) In racing it isn't as much of an issue but in practice it is. When practicing, or bashing I suppose, you can run tank after tank all day long. I've had several 4-5 hour almost continual practice sessions with my SC8 as nitro...taking breaks only to rest the hands and get some food. You can't do that with the electric is you cannot run it back to back over and over all day long. The electronics will overheat. It's much heavier...especially up front. While having some weight up front is awesome for steering, it makes this want to nose dive really bad in the air. No amount of tuning with springs or revving the motor keeps the front end up when you're trying to do a large triple like an 1/8 buggy would. My nitro can do it just fine, but the electric is almost impossible to fly a large distance. On power steering is increased somewhat, but the general push of the truck is increased. This will be tolerable on small tight tracks with small jumps, but as soon as you take it to a big 1/8 track it's going to be a huge issue. No brake bias with the AE electric conversion. This truck needs the ability to brake more in the rear. You can do that with the tekno conversion however, you cannot with the AE. Removing the engine is like removing it's soul. The truck sounds horrible now, like a Slash on steroids. Every bump, jump, and cased landing is amplified by the body and sounds terrible. Without the engine noise a lot of the excitement disappears. But that's my personal bias too, I run the nitro for what nitro brings to the table; the noise, the smell, and the mess. On the otherside, the pro's are; Not as much noise, smell, etc associated with fuel. Tons of power, which makes it a bit tricky to drive on a track but mine was topping out at around 50mph easily and I can clear every jump on the track without issue; I just can't land them half of the time because the front wants to dig in...but if you screw up the approach to a jump you can easily just point the truck in the right direct and blip the throttle and the thing leaps over stuff. Great for a RC8...not so great for something with a giant duck bill on the front of it. It does drift..with stock wheels/tires I can have the nose into the apex and drift a 40' circle without issue. The amount of low end torque is awesome, and would be a lot of fun if I liked bashing or ripping up and down my street. In the end....I just don't think it's as cool. The truck feels better with a nitro motor. So I am just going to have to buy a RC8e to put my electronics into. :) |

I am kind of on the fence about 1/8 electric anyway, I do see the point and I am an electric racer at heart....so consider that with my opinion, I do love electric racing; and the RC8 looks like fun as an electric. I converted mine with the Mamba Monster system, two Reedy 35C 2S 5000's, and the Associated kit.

Last, when I was running mine. I saw a little of oil/nitro coming out the one way bearing/clip.
Is this normal, or can I fix this? |
