Sc8 handling

So I finally got to run my sc8 on the dirt today!I've been running on frozen ponds for the last 2 months, winter in the NE:(. So I went to an old secret spot that I haven't been to in 5 years,it was pretty cool most of the track was still there just had to rake it out real quick. The soil is loose, kinda of granular I guess. So after a few slow laps I started to pick up speed and noticed that the truck felt very "assy" in the corners.I found myself overcorrecting and constantly swapping. After a few tanks I was getting better but found I had to slow down quite a bit to be smooth. My truck is stock except for 45w oil in the rear shocks.Do you guys have any suggestions on getting this truck to hook coming out of corners. My first thought was changing the diff fluids,I think stock is 10/10/10.I'm not sure what combo would help me.I have a nice selection of diff fluid on hand but I am not looking forward to disassembling what seems like the whole truck to change the fluids.Someone needs to design a drainplug for these diffs! Also,is there a way to stiffen the swaybars? Thanks Jim

I feel the same way. I just ordered the next step up thicker sway bars and moved the lower shock mounts to the outer position. I'll run it after the sway bars get here and see how it is

jhtoy 02-15-2009 05:37 AM

Where did you find thicker swaybars?

Dragonfueled 02-15-2009 05:58 AM

Ordered mine from tower hobbies. There are thee different thicknesses so I got the middle one

The truck carries a fair amount of weight (heavy body, roll cage, etc.) up high. Here's what I'm trying which has helped quite a bit on indoor clay track -

Setup:
- 1.5 pistons/50wt (rear)
- 1.6 pistons/50 wt (front)
- 2.8mm rear sway bar/ 2.2mm front
- 10/10/7 diffs

Brake Bias

Hi, i was wondering if anybody knows what better is, to have more brake pressure on the back or on the front brakes, and i was also wondering if anybody has tried setting the car higher, and how does it react, i have notice no difference. thank you

Damn good lookin' truck!

Anybody done the homework on what parts are needed to convert an RC8 to an SC8. I'm aware of the following:

RC8T chassis
RC8T chassis braces (front and back or is one the same length as the RC8?)
RC8T center diff shim
RC8T center CVAs (front and back?)
SC8 shock towers (they're similar to the truggy but they have mounting holes for the roll cage - can the truggy towers be retrofit?)
SC8 roll cage
SC8 bumpers and mudflaps
SC8 body

What am I missing?

It almost sounds like you've done the conversion Mark. I should have known you'd be lurking around these parts. Hope to run into you down at TRCR this weekend if I can get enough done on the nursery.

For anybody interested in the conversion:

ON THE WAY

Should have mine tomorrow along with my bump box

All we need local to make a separate class is 3. I do not care if I am the only one they will stick me somewhere :D

Is it fine to run 20% nitro fuel in it with the stock motor? Or should I run 30%?

Just wondering

K_B 02-26-2009 04:09 PM

20% is fine. The increase in performance compared to the price of 30% isn't really worth it. I doubt you'd even notice a huge performance boost.

dravengary 02-26-2009 07:31 PM

Thanks that is what I was thinking to :)

dravengary 02-28-2009 07:05 PM

Not much talking about this truck anyone still have one... :)
