My motor (offroad) really likes it around 230-240 also. Im running a HOT picco plug. Has anyone found the temp at which the picco glow plugs start to leak withen/through themselves. In other words, whats the highest temp they will take for a period of time before they start to fail. Also including filement losing shape?

Filament loosing it's shape is a sign of way to lean or way to hot. This info is also related to the fact that the glowplug is not leaking on the top as your other question has stated. So if you are running at 230 to 240 degree's then the way to hot is out of the question. I am going to go and say that the engine is more then likely to lean on the bottom end of the needle. Also a head shim can cause the same problem so if the head is to low then that could also be a issue. As for the leaking through the center that happens sometimes and the glowplug is bad. If the filament has lost it's shape on that plug there is a good possibility that the leak was what caused the lean which then damaged the plug.

I am not having any of those issues!!!! I was just asking how lean and hot the motor can get before you start to put strain on a glow plug.

Well then I misunderstood. But those are the causes above and there really is not a set temp that will start any of the issues.

Yep, I usualluy run arround 240ºF, but the other day I got up to almost 300!! I think (as somebody already suggested) it was a bit lean on the bottom.
Tomorrow I'll give it another run and see.I might also go back to medium plug, since it seems like cold weather doesn't seem to come...

Does anyone know the performance difference between the p7 evo vs the Drake platinum? Thanks.

A shame it got late and I could't do the second part of my test: change to medium plug an see if I could find the settings to make it run ok... I wonder how this change would have affected tunning and power?? Maybe a bit leaner= more power??? What do you think??

I don't know what they are, but someone elses needle settings may not work for you. You would have to have the same exact plug (brand and heat range), header/pipe and fuel (same brand, type and nitro content-no old fuel either). And even at that it may be close, but you still have to tune YOUR engine to what it needs. Remember ambient temp, elevation and humidity affect this too. Maybe if you post exact details of what you are running, someone may be able to assist. Your best bet is to have someone at the track with tuning experience tune the needles and temp for your or your LHS, if you trust them. How you drive, gearing and track grip also play a factor. Slippery track with wheel spinning will need a change in setting from a high traction track.

XSPOWER- thank you so much for sharing your info and knowledge. You add ALOT to this forum! I will give you business sometime in the future just for the knowledge you share freely!
Someone asked about needle settings... I run my jammin motor on a small indoor track with the weather right now at about 45-60 and med moisture. 4.5 turns out on the bottom and 5 out on the top. I run the ofna hot(picco) plug and at about 35-45 end point on throttle with a 8mm venturi I get 220 degrees and about 7.5 min+ on a 125 associated tank. When you limit the end point of the throttle ive found that it changes your tuning mindset a bit. Bottom end becomes more crucial than if you ran the motoro wide open.
