Do the fans on the castle blower come out easy, it looks like they are permanently mounted on the shroud
Here is a link how to replace them. Ps, I would go Hudy 8.4V...

Nice rig you got there......

Ok great thanks mate I've seen people say the fans on the Castle blower are 6V, and in that video 5V. They're 7.4V, it says it on the Castle website, and it says it on the fans on my blower

I can definitely confirm now the high temps were due to the LVC/batteries going to low. I took it for 3 runs today and the temps are much lower, plus the outside temp is a few degrees hotter, 33c (91f) here today, compared to 28c (82f) yesterday

I have the timer on my TX set to 8mins, and the end of run results were:

Motor - 68c (154f)
ESC - 45c (113f)
Lipos - 42c (107f)
End voltage - 3.6 per cell

So I'm happy with that

***edit*** I managed to program the Max5 and turned the BEC up to 7.4V, took it for a run and the motor finished at 63c (145f) now where talking. That gives me plenty to play with when I get the Proline MX43's at the end of the week, because they no doubt raise the temp a bit

Using this handy little RC power calculator, I get the following data. I don't know how accurate it is, but pretty impressive

R/C Calculations

Average current - 37.5amps
Average power - 1260watts (1.69hp)
Estimated burst current - 225amps
Estimated burst power - 7560watts (10.13hp)

I did this with the stock Dynamite electronics a while ago, and it worked out at just over 8hp, 2hp less than than my Max5 and Leo 950kv

Great info! Are you using EC5 connectors? If, 120A (burst 150A). Not enough for Max5 200A, you would gain more using ex: CC 6,5mm connectors...

Yeah I'm running EC5 in series, so double those numbers, 240/300amp

**edit** no that's wrong isn't it?? I realize that running in series doubles the volts, but the amps remain the same. I was thinking along the lines the amps drawn would be shared between each battery/connector??? so if the motor is drawing 200amp, then each battery/connector is getting 100amp drawn from it....wrong ?????? lol

The Proline MX43's arrived today, these things are massive. The MadMax nobby's i had on weren't small at 195x80, but these things make them look small. Total weight of all 4 with the screws is just over 3.2kg

I'm just waiting for stainless beadlock screws, they'll be here tomorrow. I didn't buy the pre-mounted wheels, couldn't be bothered taking out 160 screws and putting 160 back in. Plus they were $20 cheaper un-mounted

So the big test is tomorrow to see how temps go, and the big overall test is how the driveline holds up with the extra weight, the power of the Leo, and the extra grip

Congrats! New Car i also have MX43s and the grip, stability is another league! Driveline is no problem, not even with Claws you probable need to upgrade servo.. Yes, EC5 connectors limit your power..

Did you Rit Dye (colour) beadlock rings? mine came in grey, black with stainless screws looks amazing!

Ps. Just saw you already have upgraded servo.. all good to go )

Yep all new, but it was worth every cent, I love my DBXLe, it's the best 1/5 I reckon.
I'll get the Rit, black would look good, but I also like the yellow beadlocks on my old wheels, but I wonder how yellow would turn out, although the beadlocks are a very light grey, almost an off white colour.

Anyway, thanks for the tips and advice VIX, much appreciated. I'm always open to various thoughts and ideas

I dyed the beadlocks black and it looks sweeet

Took it for a run, checked the temps after 5mins, and the motor was bang on 70c (158f) then I broke a rod end soon after coming out of a corner

I've gone and bought 3x pairs of GTB alloy turnbuckles, so I'll be off the road for 7-10 days

Other than it went great with the MX43's, a bit quicker and more grip putting all the power to the wheels instead of just spinning

Looks awesome! how long time did you Rit dye them? what wheel nuts are you using? Losi should offer this size, stock looks like a spare tire vs MX43

It's no wonder the rod end broke, there's no more than 1mm of meat on the left hand side there. I'm surprised it even lasted more than 1 run. Pretty poor effort by Losi

I've had 1/5 petrol, Losi 5iveT and Rovan Baja, and I love the noise, but they require continual tuning and maintenance.Plus nothing's better than the instant power from electric, which run rings around petrol....too slow

+1 Electric

But time to sell my buggy. Need to to support my other hobbies and fleet of RCs. Great rig though. Needs a few upgrades like any of them.

Default Bearing swap is A challenge

The output joint on the rear diff had Some Play,so after 15 packs i wanted to check diffs and bearings...the manual states that after the wing-bracket is removed, the diff almost slides out the back after removing 4-8 screws.
This was NOT the case 😒.the whole back part is took apart to get acces to the rear diff...fun job though, this is rc lol
