Decided to install a DIY tower to tower bar. I had done this to my RC8.2-MT. Figured it would help chassis flex. I'm not sure how much flex the Tekno's are known to have but guess it wouldn't hurt.
Here's my RC8.2-MT. Which inspired me to do it on the MT410. Parts I acquired athe my local hobby shop. 17.45.43_zps1gn6ppxd.jpg[/IMG] Installed. |

a harsh crash can bend the center driveshaft on the tekno. a little rubber on your brace could help to keep the acceptable amount of flex. this can help to absorb crashes
Gotcha! Figured the plastic washers would do the trick. But rubber is much better at absorbing shock. Thanks for the tip. What did you have in mind? A rubber o-ring? Maybe fuel tubing? Or a rubber washer? |

Question... If I want to upgrade (right out of the box) to a metal spur for this kit, is this the correct one:

You probably don't need to, FYI. The spur on my EB is the original from the .3 (18 months) and the ET (12 months) as well. With a proper mesh, they hold up incredibly well.

Hi guys. Tekno told me they made a typo in the initial body compatibility list - it has been corrected now: you need the 3238-62 VW Bug body, instead of the 3238-60 one I got.
Anyway, managed to get the 3238-60 body mounted, sort of satisfactory, with some off-set body body posts. Ordered a bunch of different ones, but the Traxxas 3619 posts Doddy mentioned arrived first, and I was too impatient to wait for the others to compare. The Traxxas posts are a bit wider than the Teknos, so need to be trimmed a bit to fit the mount. Rear posts had to be cut to follow curvature of the body, so there's a bit less surface area to distribute impact over - probably weakest link now and might end up pinching through body. The small 3238-60 body looks a bit lost, with a lot of space between front and rear bumper, but I'm actually starting to like the look (makes rest of car look more bigger-monstrous-er :D) , and there seems no need for hex extenders like this, at least not with these tires. Shelved my wing attempts for now, as it's going to be too much hassle for something that's not gonna look very pretty anyway. Main reason for wanting a wing(mount) is to have an not-too-ugly way of mounting an MT4 or Outcast style wheelie-bar (Tekno, you listening??? :)); for now I zip-tied a spare TBR bar I had left from my 8ight-T to the bumper. We'll see how that goes. For anyone interested in using the wing-mount: the pics below are the Tekno low-profile wing-mount, together with the TLR244010 wing spacers I had laying around; the Losi spacers are a direct fit and help bring the wing-mount a bit more back to clear the body. To be able to use my 5Ah 6S Graphene lipos, I had to use TLR straps (sorry Tekno), as the Tekno ones supplied in the kit are too short. 0verkill said the optional TKR40007K straps are longer. Time for painting now! http://www.rctech.net/forum/members/...ng-spacers.jpg http://www.rctech.net/forum/members/...erender-94.jpg http://www.rctech.net/forum/members/...9-img-1557.jpg http://www.rctech.net/forum/members/...0-img-1562.jpg http://www.rctech.net/forum/members/...-unnamed-1.jpg http://www.rctech.net/forum/members/...51-unnamed.jpg |
Done! Paint is Tamiya PS-46 backed with PS-5. Basically used a whole can of the PS-46 in a bunch of very thin layers and blow-dryer to not have to wait for it to dry naturally. Windows are PS-31, looks like black in the pics, but they're still see-through. The PS-46 really looks awesome under natural light, very happy how it looks. I saw the PS-46 paint first in Pauly's ET48 thread and thought it looked great, so thanks for the idea Pauly!

Nice colors!
Guess the "squireel" driving it inside the body need tinted windows! How you tinted the windows? Windows are PS-31, just that? Hum...i do mines with real 1:1 cheap tinted film...never thought a paint cold see through... i know there are Tamiya's see throught, but guess i never saw one live... But i do not understand the drawings? (flames)? ;). Not your style... trying something new? |
Thanks Xmod! Haha, yes, for the squirrels, funny you remember :). Yeah, time for something different, flames to scare off the mud :D, and I'm also putting on a sticker! Cuz stickers make you faster! But only at the bottom ;) - last piece that's still underway:
http://cdn3.volusion.com/fxbcq.fnvwm...os/CM39-2T.jpg Windows are about 5-6 very thin layers of PS-31, the more you add, the darker it becomes. First 1-2 layers is hardly visible. |
I've updated the 2nd post with some useful information. Looks nice Dr T.

Thanks 0verkill!
Last piece came in! http://www.stickersmakeyoufaster.com, check them out, they have very cool stuff. I ordered the pre-cut one, and was happy I did, because this stuff is very thick, ~0.4 mm, and not easy to trim - even cutting out the eight screw holes seemed to push my wicked (but rather limited, I admit) hobby knife skillz. Hex extenders shown in pic are some chop-shop Thunder Tiger PD05-0044 hexes, adding ~6 mm each side over the Tekno TKR5071C hexes. http://www.rctech.net/forum/members/...render-100.jpg |

I didn't on mine but may on the next body. |

Nice finish. Looks awesome and so does the MT410. :)
Still waiting for someone to do a wing without butchering a body. I didn't on mine but may on the next body. Posted some pics with wing mock-up elsewhere and didn't want to spam up this thread to much, but since you're asking :): Pics below are the TKR5181 low-profile wing mount, together with the 12 mm TLR244010 wing spacers. With those mounted, the low-profile mount clears this small Bug body, but the wing needs to be cut a bit to clear the body, similar to how Arrma did with the Outcast, or even more off-set would be needed. Pics below should give a bit of an impression of the possibilities. The small wing in the pics is some cut-up wing I had laying around from some abandoned front-wing attempt. The other one is a regular 1/8 wing, taped to the mount with enough off-set to clear the body. Reconsidering, I think a nicely cut/trimmed wing could actually be pretty cool on this. http://www.rctech.net/forum/members/...erender106.jpg http://www.rctech.net/forum/members/...erender105.jpg http://www.rctech.net/forum/members/...erender103.jpg http://www.rctech.net/forum/members/...erender104.jpg http://www.rctech.net/forum/members/...erender107.jpg http://www.rctech.net/forum/members/...erender108.jpg |
In case anyone got interested in the GoolRC Fang tires I showed in my pics: I don't recommend them if you intend to go jumping. I cracked two of the front wheels within the first hand-full of badly landed backflips. In defense of the plastics, it was coldish, 2 deg Celsius (36 F), they were cheap, and my stunt skillz are pretty much non-existent: The big crack in the pic happened after landing on the side of one front wheel with full weight of the car from a ~1.5m drop.
Will be trying the 170x110 mm, 472 g Louise RC MT Cyclone 3.8 tires now, so the Tekno drivetrain and the small 4076 motor are in for a treat :). http://www.rctech.net/forum/members/...erender-39.jpg Cracked GoolRC Fang wheel http://www.rctech.net/forum/members/...yclone-3-8.jpg Proline Badland 3.8, GoolRC Fang, LouiseRC MT Cyclone 3.8 http://www.rctech.net/forum/members/...erender-45.jpg HPI 7177 Chevrolet El Camino body http://www.rctech.net/forum/members/...2-img-1624.jpg Proline 3238-60 | Volkswagen Baja Bug Body (requires non-Tekno body posts) |
Ya man sorry to hear that. I have the same wheels and tires and haven't had any issues in a year. But I also don't run in super cool weather. Just typical California Sunny mostly weather.
