The thing i like about the tekno carriers is the metal bracing around the pillow ball socket. But needing that 8mm stub axle doubles the price.....hmm

Haven't heard anything about the UE shocks myself. I use the Traxxas Big-Bore Shocks with TiNi Shafts and RC Raven dual-rate springs. Works great.

The Tekno carriers are very nice, I have no fear of them failing. And no you do not need 8mm stub axles to use them with Traxxas cvds. I run Traxxas cvds, you just need 4 6x16x5 bearings for the outer bearing in each carrier, done.

As for the 17mm adapters, if you are using Traxxas cvds, the ones from Tekno are unnecessary, use the ones you have, I am using Traxxas ones myself.

And for shocks, the UE supershocks are slightly modified Ofna 1/8 shocks, modified to work on a Maxx perfectly. So if you can get those, you'd be set.

Cheers mate. Good to hear. You went with pretty much exactly what i was going with so i figured any problems with these parts you would have experienced.

Except i plam on using 40 series big joes, you think the traxxas cvds will hold up under 6s, its about all i use on my Emaxx

Saw this on eBay and thought I would share it with anyone whos looking.

Full UE suspension with cvds, $190. Not bad and its all in one package. I have bought a bunch of things from this guy too. Everything has been top notch from him, and no I am not him lol I just saw a good deal.

Half tempted to pull the trigger on that just for the CVD's. But think I will hold off and continue to see how the traxxas ones go (bought 2 spare shafts on order) with the extended drive cups.

If that fails looking at losi xxl cvd's.

[edit]

Ordered some losi xxl's off ebay along with some vorza 17mm hex's which I hope have an 8mm bore.

Whats the best drive cup to use with the losi xxl's? Will they fit the standard traxxas cvd cups?

Thanks rustlererad3.

Man, I gotta stop helping people lol J/K

Me and suteki were talking about the traxxas cvds and how they arent holding up well for him. I hadn't had this issue. He snapped the pin where it meets the diff cup.

I ran my truck on saturday and what do ya know, I snapped the pin on the front right cvd where it goes in the diff cup. LMAO I swear whenever someone asks me about a problem that I haven't had... it gets me the next run Strange coincidences, but oh well, I'm not gonna stop helping people.

So yeah, I think I'll be looking into something like the losi upgraded driveshafts too. My buddy brought his new BL savage over last night and that things stock driveshafts dwarf the traxxas ones. Gotta go bigger and stronger.

Oh man shit sorry lol.

I actually put the plastic stock CVD on the corner where I did mine and ran 3 traxxas cvd's plus the standard plastic one and ran the car harder than I ever have before and the whole thing held up for a change. But after that first driveshaft I don't trust them so still waiting for the losi xxl cvd's to come in from America (it sucks waiting weeks for parts).

But otherwise for the moment car is stronger then its ever been. Spent my FLM budget I was holding for the 1/8 diffs and chasis on a new SCX10 though. Chasis wasn't important, diffs were a nice thought and a future proofing thing but the shimmed diffs have held up well since the second week I bought the vehicle and though I run 6S all the time and I'm now running Big Joes so I am thinking I'll just keep running them till they explode then I will upgrade.

Got my Losi XXL CVD's. Will go about getting them installed and report back on how they go on a run. Same thickness as the Traxxas CVD's, beefier CVD's and I assume better heat treated steel. So will be interesting to compare to the Traxxas. Dog bone pins a perfect fit for the standard drive cup that came with the traxxas CVD's also.

Ok first off;

I am doing my Tekno carriers a little different as far as bearings. Other people have said it's not a problem, single 15x21x4mm. I played around and could not for the life of me work out how they were doing that as the bearing wouldn't go into the carrier. Turns out (something I tried but decided against) that they were resting the bearing on the lip of the carrier. Decided against it because firstly; it just sits there and didn't seem like an ideal solution to me and secondly it forces the dog bone further in board and causes it to bind inside the traxxas drive cup.

So instead I use 2 of the 15x21x4mm bearings per carrier. I used a barrel sander on the dremel to just shave the inside of the carrier so the bearings go in snugly (destroyed the first two forcing it in without sanding, yes I can be brash). So sanding the inside in a circular motion gave them a nice fit inside the carrier. Now when I push the losi xxl cvd right in, it's a perfect fit inside the traxxas drive cup.

This might not be a problem with a different drive cup coming straight from the hybrid 1/8 bulks themselves, but because I use the standard diffs right now, I worked with what I had. This will however leave 6mm between the outer bearing on the carrier and the hex. I haven't got round to it today but I will basically be making another hole further down the axle (bout 4-5mm) for the hexes and using a nylon washer to shim the difference.

Once that's done will take it for a bash on 6S and see how it does.
