Man, I think I'm getting the itch to rebuild my Clod. Trying hard to resist.

DarkSammy 04-17-2016 04:24 PM

Cave to temptation haha! Been a lot of racing recently that I wish was closer for me, looks like a lot of fun!

Do you know if ZRP will sell the axle braces and upper link mounts separately??

Stephen, you have the SICKEST body hook ups dude! Absolutely love each and every update you give us. never be shy mate

I'm thinking of buying a Clod kit soon. I'd likely leave it mostly stock, but eventually upgrade the motors and ESC to something a little stronger. I just finished a Lunchbox and love it! Old school Tamiya trucks are simply awesome!

Great trucks! If keeping it mostly stock, I would suggest just upping to a 3s lipo on the stock silver cans. Wheely machine, and the plastic suspension parts have some trouble holding up to the increased speed and jumping ability.

Any of the cheaper 3s capable esc's will do the trick! I run this one one (a buddy gave it to me for FREE!) in a CLod with stock motors, and 3s - nice setup! motors wear out a little quicker though but they are very cheap to replace.

If you swap out the plastic suspension links and shocks for aluminum 4 link and oil filled shocks then a hard to beat combo is the Traxxas evx-2 with Titan Revo or Maxx motors. Pretty good on 3s, but can even handle 4s lipo!

Best to contact the ZRP facebook page. I do know when in stock he usually sells axle braces but the other stuff I'm not to sure.

I appreciate it! This one was special as the graphic design was actually done by me. Turned out just as I wanted.

Great!! Hopefully they work with Integy tubes, otherwise I'll have to build a 2nd Clod with plastic tubes.

Dont quote me on this but they do work but I believe you'll need to file a bit of material off due to the "round" c hub connection point.

Nice options! I didn't know the stock ESC could handle 3S LiPO. I use LiFe packs, so that might be a little easier on the motors if i used 3S. It seems the EVX 2 set up is pretty popular with the Clods. I'm pretty sure there are still a few aftermarket dual motor ESC's around yet too. I've also seen a few using 20 and 17 turn double wound mod motors that were matched up for timing. That's probably a pain to do, but I can imagine the power increase using a pair of 17X2 motors on a 3S pack over stock!

Ive also seen people using 4 Traxxas Maxx shocks in place of the 8 stockers for a cheap suspension upgrade. I'd likely leave the stockers in there though, I love the bouncy friction shocks on old school trucks!

mrgrimm 05-05-2016 04:02 AM

SHOOT! I linked the stock motors for a cheap price, and forgot to link the ESC I run. Anyways, here it is. The WP-1040. Lipo capable to 3s, waterptoof, and does a good job running mild twin brushed motors - You don't need a specific dual motor/battery esc if you wire things up correctly.

The stock Tamiya ESC I am unsure of because I have never tried it.
