Default LST Engine Choice

I've ruled out LRP's Spec 3 due to the bearing issue. 454's a possibility. XTM also makes inexpensive but good engines. I'm really looking at the RB's. Who's used the TM728, TM928 or ST28 in a big MT basher, and what did you think of them? Thanks, Brett.

Personally...I never liked the P3. It's was on or off.

Default Novarossi

I hear the 528x was the best of all of them but they quit making it. To bad, I hear it has brutal power. I've been hearing the 928 is made more for racing than bashing with the big tires. If you muggify one of your LST2s, I'd put the 928 in that. Do you know of anyone besides Amainhobbies that sells Novarossi? Thanks, Brett.

I would never race with the 928...too powerful. I was inches from buying one to race with in my muggified LST2...until I saw one run. The 928's make your tires into pizza cutters!

Default 528

I found a online shop that still advertises the 528 but it's almost $450! Do you remember it being that high?

Nope!

Honestly I would go with the 928 over the 528...cheaper and parts will be much cheaper. I would also change to a standard button as I have heard you can chase the tune on the 928.

Default To much

I wouldn't pay that much for a basher engine anyway. I thought it sounded high. I do want to smoke any MT I come up against though. I raced a AS 5.0 and got smoked. In all fairness, my second gear was totally stripped and I hung with him until he hit his 2nd gear and he did a wheelstand as it kicked in. My Mach 26 dosn't have that kind of power going into 2nd when the gears are fresh though. I figure $300 tops for the engine I choose. I may go with the RB TM728, ST28, or the NRossi28-7/RS. I havn't had any luck finding that particular NR yet.

i picked my 528x up for $60 and only 1 1/2 gallons through it!! from what i've seen pistons and sleeves for the 528x and 928 are both north of $150

BrettL if you want to straight out drag get some plus sized pinions from 8man. Play with your gearing. Set your shift point a bit earlier too. The higher the RPM the engine the better.

Default Pinions

I thought of that and I have all three available sets of high speed gears ordered for the LST. Because it's a 2 speed the 2nd gear pinions and spurs have to be bought in pairs. No mix and match since the 1st and 2nd gear mesh can't be adjusted seperately. It sounds like you know of some aftermarket gearset that I don't.

It's a MT though, so I mainly want it to bash. I just want to be as fast as the next big MT if we decide to dragrace.

All the engines listed above except rb and the st are made by the same manufacturer. They are SH based engines. One of the better budget engine builders.

xtm 456 pro is the same engine as the old lrp spec 2. Actually a pretty good basher engine.
Have had 3 lrp spec 3 and have never had any bearing issues. First I have heard of this. For the money, that is the engine I would use in a lst any day of the week.
