After 25+ years of RC racing I must confess to having turned up my nose at monster trucks. THEN I drove an E-maxx on our test track out back and was absolutely amazed at how well the stock E-maxx drove with no "dialing-in" at all. In fact it wasn't even really aligned all that well.

So...I picked up a E-Maxx as my first to be my first MT (followed quickly by a Tekno-converted Revo Platinum...my racing buddies think I've lost my mind) and have a couple questions.

First: the two-speed transmission. Is this intended to be used "select speed or select torque and go" or is it actually intended to be shifted "on-the-fly"? Believe it or not, the manual does not address the use of the transmission at all. Period. Points it out in the "familiarization panel" early on, but no mention of it at all in the operating instructions.

Second: the stock steering servo seems pretty hopeless. The manual describes the fact that the zero scrub radius suspension doesn't allow the steering servo to operate the wheels when standing still, but it doesn't seem to want to center up very well even when driving. What seems to be a minimum torque rating that works acceptably. The stock servo does not strike me as acceptable.

Thanks all,

Scottrik

Just got my first rc vehicle a new emax 5 days ago.

Pretty cool for ready to go out of the box.

Had a couple of days in the back yard just getting used to things then on Fri tried opening up the throttle on beginner mode and bam, hit a tree head on.

Broke the bumper, lower control arm and pin.

Picked up some RPM replacement parts and aluminum bulkheads and spent the afternoon installing them.

Took the truck out to a park with lots of wide open space and let her go on training mode.

Whoa lots of fun.

Then put it on regular mode, scary fast, powered turns on 2 wheels, just crazy.

This is one fun truck. Just glad I did not get something from Wallmart!!!!

It can be shifted on the fly, just let off on the throttle and then shift to second. You can also use it to downshift to low to act as braking.

I'm using a Turnigy servo with about 200 oz-in torque/ .17 sec. speed @ 6 volts and it works great. Turns my 3.2" rim tires with ease at a stand still. I think it's about $15.00 + shipping.

Will newer bulkheads fit older trucks. I have an emaxx with black chassis and broken rear bulheads. I have stock bulkheads from a new mamba emaxx when i upgraded it i saved the factory ones. Will they work on the older emaxx?

#1: With Opti-Drive, I believe you just let off the throttle and shift.
#2: I use a Savox 1256TG (277oz/in) servo for steering, and my E-Maxx wears Trencher-X tires on Desperado rims. It won't turn them on pavement, but it steers great while it's moving, even very slowly. The tires are just too sticky.

No. Gotta use old-style bulkheads.

Forgive me if Im wrong here, but I think you have those two backwards. A 3.3 trans will not fit a 2.5 chassis without making adapters. They mount differently (ref : http://www.rctech.net/forum/9894441-post29.html) 3.3 trans uses 4 screws, older ones use 8. I know that one in the link is a E trans, but the concept is the same.

And I don't recall them changing anything about the bulkheads other than the color with the 3.3 trucks. I've swapped them between older and newer trucks without any issues.

Hi, I'm remotoring my 3905. Current setup is CC Mamba Max with a Feigao 10l@ 13.2 volts. Runs OK. I have on hand a Novak HV Pro(with fan) and a 4.5 HV motor. What pinion should I run with a 68T spur @ 13.2 volts. Novak recommends a 12T, but I believe that's @14.8-16.8 volts. I'm well aware of potential heat issues. Thanks, Don

I bought one back in may and loved it. Espicially how big it is and how it goes over anything with some punch. It was a 3903. I upgraded it a lot then sold it. WHAT A TERRIBLE MISTAKE. I missed it a lot. So from august until hopefully by spring or sooner, I should have my 3908 build done. So far I have trencher x's mounted on 1/2 offset desperado's, ACNCM aluminum bulk heads, RPM true track. RPM front a arms, RC Screws stainless steal kit, and i bought a stock screw kit also.

I made my own custom carbon fiber shock towers. I should take some pics and post on here... god help me if they ever break - I made them almost 1/4" thick. My guess is that the mounts on the diff would break first.
