What does anyone know about the new ABC car, the DTM X4?

Here is the link - http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...00&pc=ABC62600

It looks pretty slick to me. Looks like the motor is upgradeable.....unlike the Mini-X.

Troy, who owns www.microracing.com knows all about the ABC cars and would be able to help you. He is also using ABC parts to upgrade and improve Kyosho Mini-z F1. So if anyone has one of those, they might want to get a hold of him.

Default Mini Z battery technology

What batteries are you running? Ni-mh, Ni-cad, Alkaline, or Rechargable Alkaline?

I am running Ni-Mh. But when I was looking at some rechargable Alkaline today, I thought that they might be the hot option since they are 1.5 volts instead of 1.2.

What chargers are using?

I have had horrible success with standard RC Ni-mh peak chargers. My Vision Peak Plus was hitting the cells with so much voltage that my battery boxes were smoking and melting.

A representative from Xpress turned me on to Rayovac 1 hour NiMH charger. It is part number PS4-B. It doesn't take an hour with AAA cells. Especially if you are re-charging them before they are fully dumped. It also peaks each cell separately.

I bought it at Target, and they are only 29.99. It also comes with two NiMH AA and a car adapter.

Batteries that I am currently using are
NiMH Energizer 700 Mah
and No Name Green wrapper NiMH 650 Mah that I bought at my local LHS.

Default Two Tips!

1. If you are running Megatech Aluminum wheels with megatech nuts, make sure to turn around the nuts in the front, so that they are Nylon on the inside and aluminum on the out.

If you do it the other ways, with normal ny-lock nuts, the nuts won't get tight enough to get into the nylon, and your wheels will fall off on the track.

2. If you have not taken your diff apart and lubed it, do it now, before it is too late. I have three cars. Two I bought used and one new. The used ones came lubed the by previous owner. The new one came dry, and wore out. If you car is spinning out in the corners, that is probably the reason why.

Default Anyone know about

1. Topcad wheels? Are they cool or not. They are half the price of Megatech wheels. I think that Top Cad fronts are a little more narrow than the fronts on the Megatech wheels.

2. I just recently discovered the Powerline brand of mini-z parts at Tower Hobbies. They seem to have really good prices.

I would encourage you, that if you have not switched to polished or chromed King Pins, that you do that. It will take care of a lot the front suspension chatter and will make your car handle a hold lot better.

Just got my micro in working order. I like it.

Doesn't really fit in a really small room, but it's fun nonetheless. Can be geared down to fit in a smaller place.

Osherman, do you run a HPI Micro? What all have you done with it? Is there a track that you race it at, or do you have your own club with other friends who have Micros?

Well, my micro looks very similar to the car in the pics on the link. As far as racing, there are very few in our area currently that race micros, but we are a dedicated few. There will be more to start racing with us soon.

Well, I basically just cleaned up my micro rs4.

I had it at 150mm, but it wasn't very fun (stuck to the ground too much).
So 140mm seems more my style

The only mods so far are purple aluminum body posts. I'm still just trying to get my electronics placed where I want them, and waiting for a Toyota Sprinter Trueno body at the moment.

Cmotif:

I've had my Kyosho Mini Z for about a year now. I've found NiMH cells to be the best for unlocking the power in the X Speed Motor. Alkalines feels very flat and doesnt last very long. I use a regular Radio Shack NiMH charger to charge all my cells and I haven't had any problems.

The best upgrades i did to my car are as follows:

X Speed Motor (no explanation necessary)

Tobee small spacers (I use these to lower the front suspension and control suspension travel in the front.)

Graphite H bar (set of three. I'm currently using the softest with hardest springs).

40 shore tires (these are all around best. hooks up to almost all surfaces. For better control, i use a 40 front/30 rear combo).

Delrin servo gears (smoothes out steering. you can definitely feel the difference before and after).

Ball Diff set (much better than stock. the car gets power to the ground more effectively. a must if you are running an X Speed Motor or higher).

What is the best Ball diff out there for the Mini-Z?

Has anyone else had problems with their mini-z, where the steering won't work, and the pull everything apart to replace gears, and the gears are fine. Put it back together and it works just fine. I had that happen on two of my Mini-z cars. What causes that?

Even so, I still get more times with less maitenance than I ever got with my 1/10th scale cars.
