Mini-96 World Challenge
#46
AWD and FWD have the same internal ratio. 2WD 7/44 combo is 6.28fdr, where AWD/FWD 17/31 is 6.382. This is the closest gear ratio between the two platforms.

Now that oval season is over, i'm considering getting a mini 96 track to try and get some local racing going and compete in this challenge.
What size is the stock layout in feet/inches? And whats the minimum size footprint needed to setup all tracks?
Thanks!

MJ,
Each square is roughly 12”X12”.

I am OK with sticking with this gearing. I am curious how the FWD will fair against the RWD, I would think that the RW
D driveline would be more efficient.

RWD is more efficient because it doesn't use the idler gear (internal spur/pinion), but at this gearing you are close to riding the RPM limit most of the time so it should be close to the same speed. Allowing higher gear ratios would swing the favor towards RWD further. I think you chose an excellent ratio for rwd/fwd/awd to race with good parity.

I was thinking this thread was going to gain traction. Where are all the participants? Hopefully more people will participate. I'm going to try a couple of sessions tonight. Not sure if I should try my GLA as it is. I'm running low 5's consistently and fast lap of 4.8 but I think I'm leaving a lot on the table. I have a loaner a-arm coming from EMU sometime next week. I just have no patience. I now this car is going to blow away my Mini Z MR-03's without a doubt. As of now I'm running Super Stock, Box Stock and eventually Open AWD. I just ordered a GLR so I can have a Open RWD car as well. I might have to make a weekend trip to a track that run the HFAY. I believe the closest is 3+ hours away. I do travel to N.Y. for Holidays so I'm for sure taking some cars this year. Is there any clubs racing on the West Coast of Florida? If not are there any members interested in starting a club in the Fort Myers-Tampa area. I'm willing to purchase the 2 50cm L tracks required. I can even host the event at my house. I just need the participants.

I am hoping we get more participation as well, I felt like we got pretty good traction on the FB pages right off the bat so it may just need some more time and we should keep pushing it of various social media pages. I personally only do FB but I wonder if it would help to get it out there on Instagram and Twitter. If any of you guys are on those platforms please feel free to spread the word. The more folks we have running the more competitive it is going to get.
As as far as running the GLA go for it, you can edit your times up to the end of the month so you are not limited to posting only one run. I am thinking a 75 lap stint time of 375s is totally possible.
Cheers,
Jim

The weights do do make the car feel much more planted. Been awhile since I ran the car any other way so don’t even remember what a “light” car felt like.

I just finished putting together a GLR to add to the garage. I chose a 3500kv GL motor for power and 330mah GL Lipo. Im stuck using my crappy Spektrum Radio for now until next week.Spring on steering broke and new spring doesn't center right. This is the second Spectrum radio that has done this. I'll be getting my 4PM and a receiver so I don't have to modify the servo and SC wires. I will be shortening up the motor wires and doing some test laps to see how it does with the Spektrum DX4S. I'll post if I get a good run in. Thanks again EMU for getting me in touch with Joshua. He took care of me and no problems.
Newly assembled GLR with 3500kv
