Hello All,
Got to do some good running.....I have to say that after not running for two months proved to be frustrating, I was helpless on Saturday but then on Sunday morning I just tried to be slow and consistent and things finally started improving. I have a ways to go but at least I am showing improvement.

One of the biggest frustrations I had was my Stock Car which is set up at 94mm and running a 575GTC body. I love how this body looks and I also really enjoy driving it but it does not play well with the armcos so you have to be clean. I was able to run really fast laps (Sub 4s) but it was very inconsistent and had no turning on throttle. The front tires had A LOT of miles on them and they were like a ribbon on the wheels so I decided to swap in some new PN KS Med Fronts of the stock wheels. On the first turn at speed with the new tires it traction rolled hard. I drove it more and it now had to much steering. I swapped over to a new pair of KS Firm Fronts on some Atomic 19.5mm 1.5mm wheels and that was better, I could still traction roll if I was not careful but it was noticeably better and with a couple small changes just got easier to drive. This morning I just started to turn some hot laps and I was doing alright so I kept going for the 75 laps and ended up with my first posted time.....the cells were pretty much flat at the end of this run but the car was feeling good. I am going to make another attempt at lunch to see what I can do because there is plenty of time I can make up.

The biggest surprise was my Pro Stock car. The last time I ran it I had a hard time taming it but yesterday it felt great and consistent. My run was far from a perfect run but the car felt good and was doing what I wanted, now it is just up to me to get a good stint in.

I just started running my GLR yesterday afternoon. I forget just how well this car runs, it is just quiet and fast. I have not gone the distance yet but I did pull out a 3.86s lap and linked together a good 5 laps at under 4s per lap. I need to put some time in on this car and see what I can do.

Cheers,
Jim

That is smoking fast........I ran a pack though the GLR at lunch and got a 308s and change which I will post up. I also broke the nose clip on my Mosler so I will try either the 458 or the 599. I will have my work cut out for me to be competitive.

Cheers,
Jim

I got some laps in last night. A guy on FB was asking the difference between the C9 and the 787 bodies which I have both of so I decided to change up my Pro Stock car from the Sauber to the Mazda which I have not run in a long time. I left the set up exactly the same including tires and found the Mazda has a bit more steering and significantly more forward traction. After a couple hundred laps I was feeling pretty comfortable and did a stint, the fast lap was almost 2/10th faster than the Sauber but the car is not as consistent but with some more practice the 787 may be the fast body for me om my LM Pro Stock car.

After breaking the forward body clip on the Mosler I swapped my GLR over to my 458 body. I had forgotten how good the 458 feels but it is not as rail friendly as the Mosler. I had also just replaced the front tires and the 458 sits VERY low on the GLR and I had some rub on the front tire with new PN KS's even with 1.5mm offset wheels. I had bought some Atomic S6 wheels a couple weeks back and thought I would give my 19.5mm 1.5mm offsets a try and see if that small change would help and bingo no more rubbing. With the new body and front tires I need some more time to get the car sorted. I can get the car to be pretty consistent but it is just not that fast right now....every now and then I can get to the mid 3.7's but the old set up with doing mid 3.6's with some regularity. I need more time to play with set-up.

Who else is planing on running this month, it sounded like we had a number of new peeps joining up but no sign of them yet. The track is fun and fast so if you have a track set it up and do some laps.

Cheers,
Jim

Did a very quick test of the GLF-1 last night, I put the new GL sensored ESC in it. So much better than the crap it came with. Now reverse is instant instead of having a 1/2 sec delay and the throttle is much smoother.

I will be putting in a time this month, just have to keep practicing.

Tom,
Sounds good, looking forward to seeing what a GLF can do, for the time being that car will be in the Open 2WD class but if we get some more cars I am happy to have a stand alone GLF class.

I have the standard sensorless GL ESC in my GLR and after some configuring I am totally happy with it. I have a wee bit of a delay going into reverse but I try and not have to use reverse during a stint, other then that I needed to play with some expo and EPA to get the throttle where I like it but I am totally happy with it currently.

Cheers,
Jim

I ran a few races with the old one so it is usable. And I never bothered programming it much since I was switching to the new sensored version. Not having to use reverse would be ideal but at this stage in my driving I still need quick recovery ability. I can't rely on never making a mistake. I like the smoothness of sensored motors. Sure they may lose some top end speed but I've got them turned down half the time anyways. More than enough power to go around.

Open class is fine with me but it would be cool to get enough GLF-1 cars for a whole class. There are 3-4 people with them at the local track but I think only one or two have a mini96 at home. Others have the Wide L or some other combination.

I plan on running. My times will be nowhere near what you guys are running. Have to get used to running on this size track. Lowest I have gotten consistently is 4.6 to 4.9. Cant stay out of the walls. Car either drifts out to the outside wall, or hooks coming off the corner to the inside wall. I know it's the operator not the car. Car handles great.

Keep at it, all of a sudden everything will click....my best advise is to concentrate of slowing down...once I do that I start linking laps.

Jim

It was always a sensored motor (GL 3500kv) I just ran it without the sensor wire.

Setting mine up for the first time this Friday. I have a lot of work to do before then and kinda dont want to even run yet. I accidentally bought radial tires and realized I should change my rear pinion and motor shims. I had to buy a new body and swap the bearings over to the new wheel set tonight. My SC430 rear tires keep rubbing in sharp turns on the larger track.

Do I really need to shave down my tires?
Should I run the radials I accidentally bought?
Radial vs Slicks on RCP?

Radials are usually better on the rear than slicks on the smooth side of RCP. I use Kyosho 20 radials.

I’ve never run the SC430, but I would not shave the radials because you’ll loose rear traction. You might be able to dremel the inside of the body to prevent rubbing or adjust the placement of the side clips so the rear of the body sits a little higher and doesn’t rub.

If you could post some pictures, that might help us troubleshoot.
