The Kyosho MR04 0 degree aluminum knuckles that had eluded me before are back in stock at Kyosho America. I would guess coming to other retailers as well.
Ran the track counter clockwise a few times before I tore it apart to build a bigger one and I was slow but it was still a good drive. Probably won't set it back up till closer to the end of the month but look forward to competing again. |

************************************************** ************************************************** ************************************************** ************************************************** ************************************************** ** Hey Everyone, Welcome to the new drivers as well as the returners! We want to Thank Yall for participating!!! We had a pretty good turnout for this time of year, as well as some close racing in the BoxStock and Stock classes. Some have REALLY figured out the BoxStock class with some SMOKIN' FAST times!!! It's Great to see the Porsche and Open car classes growing! With the re-release of the Porsche body and all the awesome Open cars out there, I hope to see them grow even more! Marwan Zabaneh (Traveler_2) had the fastest run this month with his Stock car with a 288.903 and a SMOKIN' 3.515 fast lap!!! Remember this (rctech.net) is the official home of the Challenge, but a lot of us are part of the Mini96 World Challenge thread on Facebook too! And while I hate trying to find info more than a few days old on FB, it's nice for quick questions and posting pics/videos! You can post pics there until you are allowed to here, usually around 10 posts to post pics here. Thanks for being patient with me and the thoughts while I was dealing with covid! That crap had me down most of the month! :( I'm still not great, but at least now I can turn some laps!:D It amazing to see a couple of the new drivers to 1/28th scale pick it up sooo fast!!! I think they maybe Super Humans or Aliens, but for the rest of us mere mortals, don't let their super fast progress discourage you!! Some pick up this scale faster than others, and most have been racing larger scales for years. I don't know how many 10s of thousands of laps I've turned to get me where I'm at now, and I'm a mid pack driver, still!:p Just run and HAVE FUN!!!! Just try to always improve 1 thing each time you run, and it doesn't have to be a big thing, and you'll start to see them add up on the clock pretty quickly! Also turning down the power will help more on the clock more than with any scale I've tried! It sounds counterintuitive, but the clock doesn't lie! It's very easy to over power/drive this tight track! I think I got everyone's times down, but if I missed something or screwed something up let me know and I'll get it fixed asap! Again, THANK YALL for driving with us!!! Andy Curington (BoxxerBoyDrew) |
Awfully quiet in here. Getting a few good runs in but took a while to get ahead of Septembers times. Took out the Box Stock motor to spray it out and in turn pulled off a wire and after patching it up had a pretty much perfect run for me. No 5 second laps! The pace of the Box Stock seems to match my reflexes on this size of track (fastest overall run so far of all my cars). Second month now with the McLaren 12C body on it and I think I might need to get another to try on another class. It just runs really well
Feel like all the cars are handling pretty well so a bit more relaxed this week. Been trying different tire combos but can't seem to beat Kyosho Low 30 fronts and Marka V110 slicks in the back. Every different tire I try up front (various PN) seems to be too much of a difference and traction rolling becomes an issue. They work great when I have a bigger track set up but as soon as I switched back to the October layout I just kept rolling. Still looking for a tire that is closer to the Kyosho 30 front tires performance but with more durability. Need to track or monitor batteries more, I'm starting to think some sets just don't have the punch or whatever they used to. Some runs just start out flat. Right out of the charger helps though. |

Every different tire I try up front (various PN) seems to be too much of a difference and traction rolling becomes an issue. Are you running flanged front wheels? I haven't had any traction rolling issues with PN low height KS mediums and PN flanged wheels, on the M96. I don't tape them and run them until they come off the rim during a run. |
Mostly the PN Formula wheels (flanged), though I do have a couple Reflex wheels with the discs. I think I tried them but maybe didn't dial in the disc size right. One set of the Reflex wheels I have made their way to the Box Stock car and it runs perfectly fine without the discs on, plus it seems to be set up just right for me so I stopped messing with it. That car (MR04) with the Kyosho front tires is great, it is the Stock/Pro Stock that seem to chew through them faster. Currently have 1.5 degree front blocks on the PN2.5/Xspeed pro stock car and that is the worst offender making tires cone shaped. Maybe the 1.5 knuckles were a poor choice but it was what was in stock at the time and the car does drive pretty good. PN KS Soft (I think) KSM Medium x2, KSK 40-all traction roll compared to the Kyosho 30 that normally don't. The PN tires all seem to have more grip, the inner 180 turns can be taken really aggressively, just have to be really careful on the fast outside turns to not fly off the track.
Those Marka V1 10 slick rears are amazing though. I was looking at a pile of worn Kyosho Radials and glad I made the switch to the Marka tires, they seem to run for a long time and even start out a bit taller than the Kyosho tires so even when they wear down a bit they aren't losing the top speed like the Kyoshos seemed to. |
Maybe the 1.5 camber gives the Kyosho 30s enough traction and too much for the PNs?

Hey Guys, sorry I've been quiet here, but my Laptop is still screwed up and trying to navigate rctech on my phone for me is a no go, so I've been on FaceBook more.
joelisenat, I too had a TR problem when I went to PN fronts vs. Kyo's. It took either supergluing the outer side walls of the fronts or flanged/disk wheels to get it to stop for the most part. On my BoxStock with a 12C I'm running now I have +1mm 20mm PN BBS white Narrow fronts with KS low height mediums with +2mm 20mm 3d Wide rear (no disk) with Marka V1R10. Is has just a hit of TR with the throttle at 100% and St. rate at 74% with a humidity of 60% at 73* on the track in the high speed turns ( 1, 2 & 8). My ride height is just under 2mm front and just over 2mm in the rear measured on the 04's battery's "tray". With a #3 carbon fiber PN T plate and Purple front springs, I have Kyo 15k grease on the front KingPins and the Top shock shaft with the Red spring. This setup got me this time, and is running good! It's the loose nut behind the wheel that had a few 6 second laps when the Splitter got stuck under the wall once and over corrected after being on 2 wheels in turn 1 and had to reverse! I'm going to keep trying today for a better time with my BoxStock. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...d7d1bbe717.png Class- BOXSTOCK Date- 10/19/2025 Location- Central Texas Race Time- 324.963 / 5:24.963 Fastest Lap- 3.990 Chassis- MR04 Body- McLaren 12C Wheelbase-98mm Tires- F-PN KS Medium LH / R- Marka V1R10 Wheels- F- N +1mm 20mm PN BBS White / R- W +2mm 20mm 3D wheels Black Motor- Kyo Stock Batteries- Gens Ace 750HV Front Springs- PN Red T-Plate- PN Carbon Fiber #4 Motor Mount-Kyo Stock MM Dampener (If applicable)- Kyo Spring shock (Red Spring) Dampener Fluid (If applicable)- Kyo 15k grease Gearing-7/44 Kyo Gear Diff- Notes- MR-04 Ready Set with Reflex 0* Aluminum Knuckles. With my Son at home and life I wasn't able to run hardly at all. Just able to run BoxStock and Narrow. http://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcte...33f771d0a8.jpg But seriously, if the Kyo fronts work for you and last you like you want, I say run the hell out of them! I've tried to run the exact setup as a lot of the fast guys here, and it just doesn't feel right to me, and I wind up going slower. So, find what You like and have FUN! TR is NOT FUN, and these little cars are VERY TOUGH for the abuse we put them through! Slamming into walls, violent Traction Rolls that usually has the car off the track, rolling across hard floors in my case, and they still work, usually!:p As for the flanged wheels, I have them and like them, but they are nothing like Disk Wheels at helping fight TR! I learned with disk wheels, the disks have to be almost the same diameter as the tire, and they help ALOT. You just have to watch they don't cause clearance issues with the body. Anyway, I hope Yall are having fun and are able to get in some laps at this busy time of year! |

First End of Month run for my Narrow Yaris. It was a pretty clean run, but I'm at 100% throttle at my current gearing, and I don't know if I can go bigger with the 90mm MM Pod! It will physically fit, but the motor hits the back of the chassis with much pod flex!

chjosi, Front diameter is 22.80mm Rear is 24.80mm. I have the MR04 MM pod with the axle at the Highest ride height position. I also have 2 Kyo shims on top of the T plate (.4mm total).
