Question are we running this setup counterclockwise this month??

Yes CCW in October. Good Luck as I am always slower and have more mistakes going CCW! This is going to be a challenge for me going backwards.:p

Poor_Boy 10-02-2024 08:40 AM

Same layout but CCW for October 2024. Sorry for the delay in making this post.

Traveler2, How did Yall come out after Helene? I thought of Yall when I heard that NC was in the path! Everything I read said Winston-Salem mostly got wind damage and heavy rain, but no bad flooding. Our thoughts and prayers go to all those impacted!!!

Sorry about this being off topic, but I just wanted to check on a fellow Mini96WC Driver/previous Challenge Moderator!
Take Care Everyone!!! Drew

Thanks guys! We came through unscathed. Just a couple of inches of rain and some wind for a couple of hours, and we didn't even lose power which was a surprise. But... just an hour or so north and west of us in the mountains is utter destruction from the flooding after 20-30 inches of rain fell in a very short period of time, so if there is anything you can do to help those people, it would be much appreciated. We donated to the American Red Cross, but Samaritan's Purse which is based in the affected area is another good charity.

Thanks again for your thoughts and anything you can do to help!

That's funny Drew! I am usually quicker CCW, but it took me much longer yesterday to find a decent line through this layout after reversing direction and I haven't come close to any of my CW times from September. Since we always run CW first, my goal is always to beat my own CW times when I go CCW. Hopefully by the end of the month I can get there...

Drive fast!

Well, I got some parts in, but as usual I forgot to order the small chassis parts and the front springs! :( So I ordered them and shipping is more than the parts, so lesson learned, double check large orders and make sure my dumb ass didn't forget anything! I went with the factory plastic knuckles and upper brace (N/W) for now. Yeah Racing has aluminum knuckles, but I haven't cared for the fit and finish in parts I had of theirs before. Kyosho has the Aluminum upper braces already and their Alu. knuckles are set to drop in October. I want to see how the plastic does before spending the cash on the Alu.!

Traveler2, I'm happy yall made it through ok! SO MANY others weren't so lucky!!! My rt. arm hasn't been cooperating the last few days, so I haven't tried CCW yet, but hopefully today! I see a lot of ping ponging off the walls in my future!
Take Care Guys! Drew

Pic of MR04 build, stalled till the rest of the parts come in over the next few days.

Great to hear Traveler, I can’t wait to try this ccw, but I think my helper said something about being gone this weekend ( tomorrow is a holiday and a lot of people make a 4 day weekend out of it)
Later Walt

I ran a set of batteries with my MX-5 Wide Rear setup going CCW, and after 20 or so laps to get it down it actually flows quite nice! Once I got the dog leg in the back straight down it is quick CCW, but I tend to over cook it into the first loop and nose it into the outside wall! No times yet, but I'll get some this weekend as a benchmark.

Traveler2 10-04-2024 09:16 AM

I’m still struggling CCW with all the cars I’ve tried so far and still well behind my CW times. :(

Traveler, I tried a few laps also but it look like my best laps for now seem to be about .5 sec slower running CCW :weird:

I got some AWESOME customer service from Derek at Kyosho and he sent me a new MR04 Board since mine has only full speed reverse, and since I only have a PN sensored motor, he sent me a Kyo 8500Kv sensored for me to try on the old board and report back to him if the Kyo motor acts differently than the PN, and I can keep them both. So I am throwing a PN2.5W chassis together with a mix of 03 and 04 parts to make an Open 2WD. I know the 8500Kv is a BEAST of a motor for the M96, but I'm going to try to gear it down and see if it will work. If not I can get another motor to put into it or swap with someone here if they have a need for a 8500Kv Sensord motor. I have a Golem Bee Lexan body to try on it, if not my Lexan roofed Jomurema will fit it well.

I also ordered a set of Nexx Racing MR04 aluminum knuckles to try and I'll report back on how they work out.

Take Care Guys and Stay Safe! Drew

EMU 10-21-2024 01:21 PM

Thats good service!

Rember that gearing the motor down will increase the acceleration, and could make it harder to drive. The top speed of the car is not the limiting factor on a mini-96, so gear it to what is most comfortable to drive. Especially off throttle, with the drag brake (honestly this is what I tune most with gearing on faster motors than what the track could reasonably take). If you go to the shortest available ratio, you get a throttle feel that is more on/off, taller gearing makes it smoother.

Even on the mini-96 I would think that a 10/53 would be a comfortable starting point to try first.

BoxxerBoyDrew 10-21-2024 01:46 PM

THANKS EMU!!!
I was thinking of starting there (10/53) and going up in pinion as needed. I run at least a 12/53 on most of my other cars to calm them on throttle. And YES KYOSHO really took care of me!!! A+ customer service!!! Something that can be hard to come across these days.

I forgot I am using a Kyo factory Gear Diff so I went with an 8t PN Pinion, and it is smooth, quiet, and quick but manageable. It has a bit of grease in it to slow it a bit , and it's working well. I will get a Ball Diff when I decide what motor pod I finally go with (normal MM or LM).

BoxxerBoyDrew 10-29-2024 11:11 AM

Got the last of the parts to get all my chassis up and running! Also got my PN Concept C9 body in today, and it is nice! Drives pretty close to a Jomurema, but has a bit less steering. It weighs 31.8g ready to race vs. 29.1 for my Lexan Window Jomu. It still has the protective film on the roof, so a few tenths of a gram will come off, but then you add the paint (if any, maybe just the lexan roof) and they are very close in weight and handling, but with out the need to cut the roof. I'll get a finished weight of my cut roof Jomu. when I get it painted up for a true comparison.
The Body is set up at Factory Height, and was easy to do since the side clips screw in. You can trim if you want to lower it farther, but it's pretty darn good as is! It takes +3mm wheels all around with plenty of protection from the body to keep your wheels from hitting the walls when you hit them! We'll see how the times go between the 2.
Anyway here's the pics.

Dampener (If applicable)- PN DDS (Green top/Gold bottom springs)
Dampener Fluid (If applicable)-Dry
Gearing-12/52 PN Ball Diff
Notes- Had TOO much steering, so I had to tweak and do a lot of tire trials, but it took going to 19mm front wheels to get good traction without traction rolling. As well as going to a old set of Marka slicks that never had good traction , but work well on here.
The car is light, but I have as much tungsten putty as possible in the chassis, so with further driving if I can't get it like I think it should be I will go to a PN2.5W chassis. That's what my 2wd Open chassis is and it is the best driving in my fleet!
Humidity on the track went from 50% to 60% and traction went WAY UP, so I had to be super easy with it, but even then it was on 2 wheels in the high speed 90* off the main straight on more than half of the laps! This is a new build, so I need to work on the setup more to get it suited better to my driving style! I never hit full throttle today when I was able to be on full most of the straight a few days ago! Should have done my timed laps then! Weighs in at 169g. I'll try to get a better run, but time is close to being out this month. Had 2 rolls but landed on the wheels.
