Are any of you guys/girls over in the US racing the 14B/T on carpet?

Interested in hearing how your center diff gears are holding up on grippy carpet with jumps....

If AE actually bothered to come back to this project and designed a slipper based spur gear so that we had the option to swap out (as per the B74, etc) then this chassis would be top notch awesome...

Come on AE, you have such a fantastically designed platform here, but it needs a slipper.

I’m racing it on carpet and so far no issues with center diff, actually all the diffs. I’m running 30k in the center. A slipper would be a nice option and bonus….one less diff to maintain.

Heat Sink

So I found a heat sink for the stock 24mm diameter motor. It fits fairly well but had to cut a very small amount off one of the last fins in order to clear the central driveshaft. No biggie. It works great so I picked up a second one. I still want to cut a small vent and add a small scoop for sone extra cooling but haven't got around to it yet. It runs fairly cool on 2s with stock 16T pinion and 58T spur with the 1.9" road wheels.

E-Flite EFLH1132

It's a heatsink for a heli w a 370 main motor. Happens to fit the Relfex stock motor just fine. It is a little soft in that it will not snap on to the motor w/out bending open a bit making a small gap between heatsink and motor which limits cooling of course. So I strongly recommend sliding it on from the end and put a little heatsink heat transfer paste on the motor right where it will sit to help transfer the heat.

I would post pics but this silly interface i struggle with won't let me. :(

Billy Kelly,

Ride height screws? Two full turns up? Are these the small set screws under the swingarm tabs? I think I set mine right before the chassis hits the ground?? Will check...

So when I installed the heatsink I went through the car and made sure it was all up to handle some driving. There were a few stripped screw receptacles/housings in some plastic parts and a couple in the chassis as well. The plastic just came right out w the screw. I guess flexible hard to break plastic has to have its compromises somewhere. Someone got a little ham fisted at the factory. Wish they made a kit!

Went thru all the shocks as they had air in them. New 20wt oil in all of them. Set them up w a little rebound pressure for ride height. Handles the rough much better now. Still bounces around a bit as it is a small light rig but tracks much better. Also greased and oiled the drivetrain. Went with 5k, 5k, 3k Cst in F, Ctr, R diffys respectively. Sealed em up w a tiny bit of rtv. WHat a difference! Definitely recommend you try some if you are running dry.

Looks like you folks are having fun w your Reflex,s! Great little ride! She handles awesome! :)

I found a few screw holes on my 14B that were stripped. So while the screw is removed, I put a very small amount of wood glue on a round toothpick...stick toothpick into screw hole and pull it out...put screw back in place right away while the glue is still wet. The glue holds fine and screw comes out easy when needed.

Thank you for providing the model number of the heat sink.
Here is a link to the same one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/362095889862

Hey Nitro Ace! Your fleet is looking good! It sounds like a bit of handful on 3S but in a good way!

Thanks for posting the link. I had uploaded pics and a link but rctech doesn't let me. I have some pics that may be useful to some. How many posts do I need??

Nitro Ace,
Yes, that's basically what I did with my screws but I think I used epoxy if I remember correctly.

I don't remember how many posts they want. I would guess about ten or twelve. I believe this requirement is to discourage persons who want to leave some quick advertising but don't care about using the forum for it's intended purpose.

I remember I might still have one of those heat sinks (you showed above) somewhere in a box. Years ago, I had a bunch of Esky brand RC helicopters (old and crude by today's standard). They came with cheap brushed motors that got really hot, so they mounted those exact same heat sinks from the factory. We had a lot of fun with those helis back around 2007 to about 2010. I modified a couple of them with small brushless motors and speed controls.

Hey, if you can find it, it's worth installing as I saw a significant drop in temperature w even just one installed. The motor def performs better at cooler temps. I had it out the other day w a fine glaze of ice and dusting of snow refroze to that. Perfect amount of traction with stock wheels and tires drifting and sliding around, and of course the motor stayed quite cool in the 32*F outdoor temps.

Merry Christmas all!

Yo Drew, Sorry your heat sink didn't fit. Maybe the fan will work okay the way you positioned it. I hear you, the receiver has to be really micro on these cars. I wanted to use my spektrum transmitter, but the spektrum receiver is too BIG. I bought another Associated XP120 radio system for the 434, so now I have three sets of those. They're not the best but mine are doing the job just fine, no problems, my spectrum transmitters have throttle trim but none have throttle dual rate. I like the throttle dual rate dial on the XP120 transmitter. Having that feature is great when moving from outdoors to indoors.

With the small fans (30 x 30 x 10 mm), I noticed some of them are rated for 2S lipo (at least 8 volts), and others are rated for 3S (at least 12 volts). Sometimes a company will rate their products very conservatively to avoid liability, even when there's rarely a problem. So I guess we won't know until we burn one up. My volt meter measured 6 volts at the pins on the receiver with a 3S lipo connected. I ordered a hobbywing-traxxas-HPI fan (30 x30 x 10 mm), last night on Ebay. Nothing about voltage was mentioned, no specs given. It was a mere $6.97 total. I wanted 2 of them but it was the last one in stock. If it works good I'll get more of those, lots of vendors selling those same fans.

YES those tires on the cool GT3 wheels are new Reflex 14 stock tires. They still need to be glued to the wheels. The helicopter is an E-FLITE Blade 300x. It's in great shape...ready to fly, but has not been fired up since about 2016. It has about 75 flights on it after I crashed it badly and rebuilt it in 2015. I've never flown it inverted, but I can do it a little bit on my RC simulator.

do you haver a part number for those wheels?

guido92 12-29-2021 07:13 AM

i am using a hobbywing fan. i cut the tab off of the servo mount housing and it fits great with plenty of airflow.

Thanks for asking about the wheels. All I can remember is, I bought them from Tower Hobbies 6 or 7 years (a long time) ago. Wish I had ordered more than one set. They might have been HPI brand but I'm not sure. Sorry...wish I could give you more information than that.

Yeah, that's great the heat sink is working for you. I remember right where it is. Years ago we used these on a brushless motor powering a Parkzone F-27C Stryker flying wing. Mine went 109 MPH.
