    If you're using a leather hole punch then you can pinch the rubber on the tire until you can get the hole punch on it. I've vented several pre-mounted tires.

    I don't think it matters where you punch the holes, my lap times are always the same regardless, but the theory I have heard the most is that punching the sidewalls won't disrupt your tread pattern...
