For ideas on changing stuff around feel free to peruse the 56pg thread about it from last year.

P.S. lol if that thread is revived.

Anyone that knows me may not believe this. 20 years ago I could drive a 1/12 mod car. Today, not a chance. I am just getting old. It was time to slow down but keep the fun of competition in it. Just remember what the point is. We race for the competition, to test our personal skill level and enjoy it with friends. Sometimes we need to step outside the box and try some new things. This test in 1/12 will affect only a few. It may not be perfect (new rule packages seldom are) but hash it out and work on the test.

My $0.02.... if you don't want full mod, run superstock, if you want to change rules change the middle of the spectrum class and leave the far end alone. Make Super stock 10.5/8.5/6.5 whatever. I like open because I can tweak the ESC to my preference and run a 3 year old, $85 motor that is still beyond my mastery. SPEC anything becomes a money game, while you may not see the guys testing 4 or 5 different ESC to find the best Blinky, I guarantee there will be a Certified Plus 6.5 type motor from the manufactures for a measly $150 and don't overheat it cause you'll need a fresh one next big race. I've tried 8.5 and 5.5 and in my opinion the steps are noticeable enough that until you get to 4.0-3.0 range it will become a motor of the month class. Now that we have the Black carpet, Mod is race able, with out screwing you car up to let the fast guy go. The Midwest Throttle Junkies that saw a little growth in the Mod classes was mostly guys who were tired of the SPEC budgets. I agree with Josh leave the power plant alone, limit the fuel capacity, or lengthen the race. 10th scale went from 4 to now 6 in a lot of places, 12th has been 8 forever, maybe a 6 or 7K mah limit and 10 minute races, that would bring back the end of race uncertainty that vafactor mentioned. Personally if, the hobby as a whole goes toward spec motor, blinky for mod, I'll be done with electric.

I think the current mod setup is too fast for most people, myself included. Let's take Ken as an example, since I haven't raced Mod in a while, at the 2014 ROAR Carpet Nationals he ran a 52 lap 8:03, a 7 lap 1:13 and a 37 lap 8:04 in A1, A2 and A3 respectively. His fastest run was 5 laps off the winning pace. A 52 lap 8:03 would have finished 2nd or 3rd in 13.5 Blinky 1/12 that year depending on what A main you look at.

It's probably time we look at slowing down mod a little. If that is with motors, battery capacity limits or blinky ESCs, but not rubber tires. Rubber tires on a 1/12 is stupid.

Default Fast mod

I'm not really understanding why someone who's best run was 5 laps off the pace and who DNFd the other two runs would be so adamant about on holding tight to hyper fast motors that are so extraordinarily difficult for all but a only a select few RC superhumans to handle.

There is no need for this type of ad hominem bullshit to be used in this discussion. Figure out a different way to frame the discussion that doesn't involve specifically calling someone out - it isn't productive and just makes you look like an ass.

How about we let the Gate crew hype their event and stop jacking this thread. Someone please start a 12th mod flame war somewhere else? Thanks.

I'm really looking forward to racing with the NORCAR guys. The Halloween Classic is a race that every track wishes it could hold.

Friendly reminder that the deadline is quickly approaching to get your payment in for your first class, 15 Aug 7pm EST. After that, we will begin offering unpaid spots to the wait list.

Your additional classes can be paid at a later time, sooner the better though, but keep in mind we need to reach the paid class minimums by 30Sep so people have the courtesy of knowing if a class they want to run will be ran.

Classes that have not reached the minimum yet:

TC Mod
TC 13.5
12th 6.5
GTR
VTA *where all them people asking for the class to be offered?

We still have a lot of people who have not emailed me their first class and/or additional classes.

Due to the special nature of 12th 6.5 and people having to buy a motor or stator to run it, we have decided to provide a guarantee that the class will be ran regardless of entries so your money is not wasted.
