Here are my two NEW cars. I found the F1 NIB from Japan. It was last produce in 1997. I would really like to see this form of racing return to RC. I ran F1 back in the mid 90's and really enjoyed racing such a simple rc car. I just test ran the F103GT at Evolution Raceway today with a Novak GTB / 5800 brushless and the stock gearing! It was silly fast. I'll be bringing it out for our test n tune on April 7th and 8th to stir up some interest.

I think you are confusing some of the parts that had come out for the F-1 cars which were discountinued. Tamiya has had better then expected success with the F-103 GT and has only plans to expand upon it.

I for one, and I think there are many others, would applaud the return of F-103. It was a simple car with limited opportunities to screw up set-up. Most adjustments needed were to the transmitter or the operator. When F-103 went to rubber tires, the class only got better IMHO. F-103 tires would not be hard to come by if Tamiya would produce them again. I still have a few sets and just purchased some this Jan from a LHS that said they just got them in.
Yes, I am pine'n for the F-103 days when wheel to wheel racing meant something and the chassis were tuff as nails. The TCS turn outs were pretty robust as I recall too.

I picked up a few old F103s a while ago (thanks to rctech For Sale section) and my son is always asking "when can we drive them?"

We've messed around with them a little bit, but the diff is sort of a pain, and the old foam tires are nicked up.

But a new F103GT chassis (improved diff) with a F1 body and wide rubber tires in the back would be great. I know I could do that with the vintage HPI wide rims and tires, but a TCS legal car would be better.

Hawk, What is the issue with the diff? I think they are bullit proof. Drop me a note or talk to me the next time you see me at Trackside on any Sunday, or May 5th. I can help you out with the F-103.

I was talking about the OLD F-103s where every time you change the rear tire you have to re-adjust the diff. Just an inconvenience. Nothing major.

It would just be nice if there was a modern Tamiya F103 F1 car.

I was hunting through my garage the other day, and came across an untouched Sauber body kit
And seeing a post somewhere where they had mated the F103GT to the original F103 chassis plate and fitted an F1 shell, they also fitted Touring car foams, this gave it more of an F3 look, so I am now thinking of trying the same.
So could this be an Single Seater revival ? using Touring car foams?

Man, first time out yesterday and it was ugly.....

I built the smoothest diff that everyone thought it was loose
but when the spur gear was held it didn't move. The car set up:

Stock with pre-painted body with the upgraded shock.
I tried 3 sets of tires... Stock, B3 and foams with silver can,
14 tooth pinion and 3300 stick pack.

Ist qual: Put/soaked Paragon on brand new B3 ties,
med HPI insert in rear, hard HPI insert in front. I could
not keep the rear from spinning around what off power
going around cures... Power on would also spin it around....

2nd qual: foams tires 26 mm, 42 shore up front and
30 mm 40 rear.. SO much better but still it had issues...
offpowr turning.. fast in OK when it slowed
it would turn on a dime.... Not TCS legal.....

3rd qual: Stock tires.... Better but still had problems
on and off power going into and out of turns...

Main: After dremeling the B3 it was almost the same as Q1
but a litter better but still spun out every other turn...

Sounds a bit like my first test day with it.
At that time it was recommended I run sticky grease and run little pressure on the friction plates.
I changed that to the slippery Tamiya Molibunum (spelling?) grease and a stiffer spring tension, it was then very drivable with Sorex 28 front and 24 rear.

It REALLY helps if you run an ESC with an amp limiter on these cars. At the C I would suggest Type A's with the flimsiest foam you can find in the rears and HPI red/orange medium inserts in the front. Easy on the throttle until the tires get warm. No choppy-choppy. You CANNOT drive these cars like a sedan!!! No throttle point and squirt, gotta be easy and smooth, smooth, smoooooooth.

I am right there with you on the F-103. Awesome car did not need much maintenance cheap to run, a true drivers car.
