If you use the new light weight shaft, which is 2mm longer than the old one, the gears will only strip in the worst possible crashes (like going into a wall straight on full speed).

Marvi: The part number for the lightweight shaft is 53686. How do you like the evo?

Note TB02 kits come with a longer green shaft too that's not lightweight.

There's a chance that these green shafts are being sold as the original EvoIII standard shaft with the old sparepart number. Check any new stock your LHS has got...

work: thanks for the info the tamiya dealer in makati has no stock of the longer shafts, ill try my luck in megamall tomorrow. i ran the evo for the first time this afternoon, after a couple of battery packs, it seems to accelerate out of corners faster than my TA04, even with a 5.8 ratio (i ran my TA04 with a 6.0+ ratio)
i still have to set it up because it has a bit of understeer. plus, i still have to work out my gearing for 23T stock. ill see what it can really do this saturday hope it doesnt rain. thanks for the deal

if i cant find one locally, ill get this one. i hope it arrives here within a month, my last tower order took almost 2 months before i got a notice from the paranaque post office

are the aluminium gearboxes worth the weight offset they have. or do the plastic ones cut it when the threads arent stripped??

You have to shim the diff like what Tamiya has for EVO4.

I´m using the Square gearboxes since about one year now and I think these are some of the parts really worth the money.

Pros
- drivetrain is much more free
- bearings are better supported
- no more stripped threads
- looks really cool
- no shimming necessary. Every Square gearbox is the same unlike the plastic gearbox.
- much stiffer chassis. I´m using the 2.5 mm chassis only and this is even stiffer than the 3mm chassis with the plastic gearboxes.

cons
- won´t help very much with the oneway gear problem
- a little expensive but really worth the money
- heavier. But you could remove the center brace with the screws and save a little weight again as the chassis is so stiff now so the brace isn´t needed any longer.

i think he means the keyed biy that goes on to the prop rounds off.
if it does you cant do anything to stop it.
its only happened a couple of times to me.
always on the front tho.
never had any probs with the back.
