Do you mix front and rear tires or use the same compound all around.? If so which compound do you put in front and what on the rear?

I use the same tires front and rear so I can swap them around for even wear, and then I tune for oversteer/understeer using springs and swaybars.

You can use the 418 bars on the FF04 Evo, you'll have to shorten them a couple of mm's on each side. I've never used the 419 ones...

The XV-01 sway bars are recommended in the manual, but when I read the review of the FF04 Evo on kentech blog, he recommended the 418 ones as he feels the XV-01's are all on the soft side. And the FF04 Evo doesn't come with a front sway-bar, it comes with a rear one - so the previous owner may have put the rear sway bar on the front.

I just ordered another set of 418 sway bars from TQ.

but there was no sway bar on the car none on the front and on the rear.
So I didn't know if the 419 sway bars would fit front and rear.
Or do I need as set for XV-01 for the rear?

Hey Claude,

If the car doesn't have any sway bars, I would just order a set for the 418... You can get them off ebay, Tower Hobbies, or I use TQ RC Racing.

Here is the FF04 Evo build I was talking about. Good info and hop-up information in here. For example: the kit comes with plastic suspension blocks and kentech recommends using aluminum ones. I ordered some of those as well.

Is a fan for the motor necessary? Running a 21.5

I can't offer any advice on if a fan should be used with a 21.5, but I do know the thin band type R1 makes work, there's enough clearance for one of those.

Are black aluminum suspension blocks offered? My chassis is blacked out and if I got some blue ones I'd want to re-anodize or paint them to keep the black out theme.

Maybe someone can chime in that knows more, but I've never seen anything but blue anodized aluminum suspension blocks from Tamiya. Even the Yeah Racing ones are blue... I hear'ya though - just ordered the Black Edition - should be here today - and will want to keep it black themed. Will probably just utilize the plastic ones until they HAVE to be upgraded.

The Exotek pivot blocks are discontinued, so you can only buy the ones they still have in stock. I ran into that problem when buying them for my TA-05v2 Gold Edition.

Regarding the motor fan: Running one wouldn't hurt, but you would have to run astronomically high gearing to actually put a heavy load on the motor with only the front wheels putting power to the ground. Even a cheap disposable brushed 27t motor is enough to spin the front wheels on a FWD touring car; You'd probably have to gear the pinion and spur >1:1 in order to overburden a brushless motor without spinning the wheels.

Thanks for that info, fyrstormer. Just ordered a boatload of'em... except the "D" block as those are out of stock.

I got the Tamiya ones coming to upgrade the FF04 Evo, and now these for when I build the FF04 Evo Black Edition.

How do these compare to a plastic FF03? Would you notice the difference?
I am not a racer but do visit the local track for timed laps a fair bit and my FF03 is for the track only use.
I guess the same answer would apply to a TA05vsTRF416 etc etc.


I use other cars for bashing.
