Hey guys me and my son are looking at this car for us as beginners. We are running in rookie and we are looking at the NU version but not sure whats the difference between the normal and the NU. Rookie class is 21.5 2s with a esc that has no timing or boost.

So my question is what kind of gearing should we start with? We are going to be running mostly at a indoor carpet track and sometimes at the outdoor track to.

I’m new as well, but the common trend is pushing to a 4:1 final gear ratio. So if you buy a NU the chassis has a 2:1 internal gearing so you want a pinion/spur to give you around a 2:1. I was running 90/45, but I run outside and the 64 pitch gearing just doesn’t work out with contamination so I’m going 66/33 or 34 on mine. It’s a great handling chassis. I’m running mine with a 21.5T motor with no timing or boost as you are purely because I’m still learning to drive and my limiting factor is me not the car. . It’s.a fun car to build. Read this thread because Mopar has a lot of good info.

Thanks so much! I think stock is 48P but not sure what tooth count it has. I am going to be getting a Mach 3 21.5 motor and not sure ESC yet. Glad to hear its a good handling car for us beginners. I am sure we will have a blast with it!

Out of the box its a durable kit, I like the pink bling so my favorites are the floating servo and bulkhead covers.
Currently waiting for the Big Bore shocks and SSK driveshafts.
what does this mean for the spacers? 12mm usgt wheels won't just bolt on?

3RAC-WX12SP Wheel Adaptor Spacer Set

XI is designed around 24mm wheels so your USGT wheels will bolt right up, VTA uses 26mm front and 31mm rear wheels, so you need wider hex mounts Search - wheel adaptor or spacers to get proper fitment.

Anyone active still running the Ultimate 2014 care to share your opinion and insight?

Looks like just tightening the cv axles is not enough, had one come loose in 21.5, so took them all apart, a tiny bit of blue locktite and they should be good to go

Another fun race day, VTA was total domination with TQ and win ... 21.5 was a different story, 2 wrecks and finished in 4th.

Mopar. I did a teardown on the last 2 remaining factory U joints and found the same thing. A little loctite was my solution too. I've got a second set of upgraded shafts coming, but in the meantime I figured it would work. At least they are easy to get at.

I've got mine tore down waiting on new gearing. The 64 pitch, where I run, lasted maybe one heat before it was making a lot of noise. Even with a brush and compressed air I couldn't keep it happy. The spurs were xray, but the pinions were a Yeah Racing set I found on amazon so that could have been the issue. After consulting with everyone running USGT and VTA at my track 48 is the only way to go with the conditions we have. Oh well. I've got plenty of wrenching to do this week.

YESSS haha.. Honest I think this will be a nice leap in the right direction. Especially the big bore shocks, I thought the shorter shock towers were needed?

I always used locktite on all my cv joints from the time MIP invented them, assumed the xi had locktite on them ... was wrong, no big deal, just a small drop of locktite and there good.

64 pitch is great unless ur racing on dirty parking lots, then you want 48p, here is a nice gear chart :
