My better half and I built his and hers TT02s. Just parking lot fun, but I've got the bug now and it's quickly turning blue. I just ordered a Hobbywing Justock 17.5 motor and esc combo.. just in case I need to make the drive to a real track.

I started my TT02 build yesterday.

I can confirm that the TT02D type S kit does not come w the aluminum motor mount. Yet the entire drive shaft including the propeller joints are aluminum (which is nice). Also the shocks are actually oil filled ones, I was expecting the cheaper "friction" dampers Tamiya puts in some kits. -So that was nice.

I ordered an aluminum steering setup, proper cv joints for the front and aluminum motor mount. I think that should be good as I don't plan to race this one, just parking lot fun.

I plan to run the stock torque tuned motor w a Lipo 2s battery and traxxas esc (which will handle the brushed to Lipo setup nicely). --have those parts in my spares box. (Knew they'd come in handy one day)! -photos to come.

Hoping you can assist. I've been upgrading my TT02 based on your awesome guide. As I'm getting back in to this after a 30 year hiatus the help has been very appreciated. As my 17.5 Justock motor is on the way, I decided to go with your gear recommendation of an 82t spur and 49t pinion. Both are 64p. I'm using the high speed set to attach the spur, alum Tamiya motor mount, and used the 16t holes per the guide. The issue is the mesh is def too tight. Not locked up solid tight, but nearly so. Any idea on what might be the issue? I took it out for a spin regardless (I'm dumb for an old guy) and I really love the feel with this gear combo.

If this can't be used, is there a close-ish spur/pinion combo in 64p that would work better with the Tamiya mount? Truth be told I went and ordered the YR mount, but I'm still curious as to what I could have done wrong with something so seemingly straight forward.

There is still room to move your motor in each holes. Just unscrew and push the motor all the way right and tight the screw again.

Thanks! I was able to get a hair more space. Tightened down the mount, and it was still just a little tight. I had some .2mm shims around, and put them before the mount holes. Cinched it down, and feels very solid, but the gear spacing now seems MUCH better. Great little bit of advice, thanks again!

Thanks. I'll get a pic, though I must warn you while I'm a stickler for box art (or close as my meager skills allow) the missus insisted on a rather unstock color changing purple mist. Tamiya purists will need to forgive me.

Thus far I've upgraded the following:
*Universal joints front and rear. Currently the alum YR ones, but I'm hoping to put steel ones up front once I can find a place to order them that's US based.
*Alum steering setup and turnbuckles
*Alum shaft and prop joints
*Bearings all around
*YR 55mm dampers (using the standard 3 hole setup)
*Alum Tamiya motor mount
*High speed gear set so I can play with different gearing options (following Qatmix's blinky gearing guide with standard mount)
*Clamp Hexes

Awesome, -I am all about creating your own customized and creative looks. Sometimes i'll copy the livery of a real racing car/team or come up w/ my own.

I am still undecided on what car I plan to model my TT02 after ...top contender right now is a modern Porsche GT styled body ...maybe one of the bodies from the HPI Porsche kit -if they sell it unpainted (hpi doesn't seem to sell anything that you can make yourself amymore) --its all RTR and pre-painted.

Since my TT02 is going to use the stock torque tuned motor and not go blazing fast I am going to make mine more of a vintage looking racer. Going to go w/ the ABC Hobby "Nissan GTR" OR "Mazda RX-3" body and vintage looking wheels. I am waiting on the aluminum motor mount to arrive then will continue w/ the build... photos to come. (I did put the dampers together, they are surprisingly okay for plastic). --I've always run higher quality aluminum shocks in my cars and trucks. These will be fine for bashing.
