Actually, they are made here in the Philippines. Funny thing is that you can't buy them directly from the factory. They get shipped to japan where the price of a tt01 for example is 6000yen in hobby shops. When they ship it back to the Philippines to the official lhs and distros, the price is the retail box price, 5000 peso or around 100US.
I should've stayed in Japan to get all the rc stuff cheaper.

It's neither 64 nor 48 .... If you want to mess around with it, buy those Tamiya A.V. pinion gears .... usually they use for M-chassis car...

My input: I've been using 48 pitch pinions with the stock spur gear for a while with no problem. I built the car with a standard, 48p, 72t spur but rocks made quick work of that. I figured, what the hell...doesn't cost to try the one that came with it

Weight loss program is needed. I ran mine out the box at about 1650g. You can get light bodies though, remove the battery holder, pick your batteries carefully, cahnge the screws etc...

No it is not. Tamiya 0.6 module gears, as found in the TA05 kit box, and most other Tamiya kits, are not even close to 48dp. If you do the conversion from 0.6mm pitch to imperial/US units it equates to 42.33dp.

On the other hand Tamiya 0.4 module and 64dp are very close.

I have a set of RD Logic's wrenches and they are so tight in the screws you have to wiggle them into them. Best wrenches I ever bought..................
