Serious asphalt racers use rubber tires.

I seriously think it's getting cheaper to run nitro these days... The EP chassis of the week is getting out of hand....

I say we run Nitro TC's and EP Pan cars.... Same speed from either.... Hell of a lot less maintanence from the Pan Cars though....

Yeah, not to mention really expensive.
I thought $300 dollars was expensive for a chassis. Turns out that is the cheapest out!
$350 for the JRXS, $400 for the T1FK05 and $450 for Tamiyas is getting out of hand.
I guess thats why their will always be an Electric vs Nitro debate.

Can someone tell me why nitro kits cost so much more than electric?

If assuming all parts are even in price. Gas car has 2 more features that an eletric car doesn't. A "centax" clutch and a 2-speed, right there you are looking at both items for about $150-$200. Add the price of those 2 features to an electric car kit, you do the math. That's why I said electric TC isn't cheap.

As far as I can tell most of them are cheaper than Electric.
You can get a Factory Team NTC3 for a little over $300.
You still have to buy all the engine components, but the same goes with Electric and having to buy all your components.
Electric componets (for good stuff) will run over $400 (not including reciever, and only taking into account 1 battery pack)
You could probably outfit a NTC3 with good engine components for the same price if not cheaper.
Mugens and Serpents will probably be $500-600, but then again EP Tamiyas are really close to $500.

My two favorite classes are 12th scale electric and 1/8th scale nitro onroad. Both classes provide ballistic speed and cornering. These two are definately the Formula 1s of RC.

You got that right! Believe it or not, 1/12th used to be bigger than 1/8th back in the days. 1/0th EP TC just got big within the last decade, I never owned an electric TC until just this past summer.

Here are the current prices of everything you'll need to be competitive on a regional level (things that the other doesn't need):

ELECTRIC:
car: 350
esc:150
battery:60
motor: 50
charger:400

NITRO:
chassis: 600
extra servo: 70
fuel:20
battery: 30
charger: 150
starterbox:100

Electric total is 1010
Nitro total is 970

So both of the cars are within $50 of each other. I did not include the radio, powersupply, steering servo, bodies, tires, spare.

Do you really need a $400 battery charger? Can't you get one of the $150 chargers that charges at 6amps to do the trick?

you forgot to put in the $600 nitro engine, $100 tune pipe, $10 air filter, $15 glow plug (igniter included), $50 batteries to power the starter box

so that brings you to a new total of:
electric 1010 (with the $150 charger and 5 batt packs)
nitro 1745 (with parts to make car run)

Default $150 charger

Of course that will work. But then you also have to get about 5 packs of batteries total, so you'll be back in the same figure anyway.

yes you are right 5 batts in total....BUT it will last you more or less 1 year.

what about nitro fuel? will 1 gal. last you a year? i dont think so!!

lets do the math......

unmatched batts =20
five packs for a total of $100 (more or less)

1 gal of fuel 20 (good for 1 month more or less)
one year supply = $120

$600 for a motor? What are you running, a JP in an 1/8th?? His figures are for a 200mm, $350 for a chassis kit, $250 for a pretty hot .12 motor already.

you guys quoted top of the line chargers of its only fair to quote top of the line engines.

Pro4Capece's quote was to be competetive at a regional level..... i highly doubt that you would be competetive when you are up against guys with a JP or a rody tuned engine.

ok so with doms prices taken into account that totals are:
electric 1010
nitro 1395
