great reading the whole thread through.
but i have a tire wear problem on my cyclone wce.
both front tires wear excessively on the inside (as in the attached picture).
i started with 1.5deg negative camber and went back to between 0.5 and 0.75 by now they still wear like this. the camber rise is on the lowest setting (hole1 in the topview).
what can be the problem here?

Have you tried Tamiya's wide pitch diff pulleys for the TRF415?

I wonder if they really add any efficiency...

They are like 36 tooth pulleys with every other tooth missing. It's the opposite of cutting every other tooth on the belt, except that you are not weakening the belt. I do not know about these pulleys being prone to skipping, but makes me curious.

Your 3racing 18t main pulley and the diff wide pitch pulleys will bring you down to 2.00 ratio if you can actually use them. Maybe the belts would be too loose using those parts and you had already given it a try.

Just a thought...

Well I am having to move for my job and that means no more 4wd touring car racing and having to migrate to the 4wd electric buggy world.

If anyone is interested in a pretty nice Hot Bodies Cyclone Setup, here is my link:

That's just the wear characteristic of rubber tires. A rubber tire rolls over during cornering which causes the inside of the tire to wear out along the sidewall seam. A larger air gap or a softer compound will allow the tire to roll over more thus wearing the seam out even faster. Just don't remove all your camber to try to fix the situation. Removing too much camber can cause handling problems(unstability) due to the lack of contact patch you will experience during cornering.

yes I've tried the 36/18 combo.. belt was too loose even with the belt tensioner at it's tightest position. very little difference between 2.05 and 2.00 ratio. the new Tamiya 416 will have 37T / 18T pulleys. hopefully the 37T will be more of a direct fit. I'll definately get a set to try when it's released.

What did you need to do to make the 501x diff fit better?
Would these work with a front one-way? ... or would too much material need to be removed?

between 104/31 and 109/33 should allow you to go from 7.68 to 8.57 (both 64dp)
accumulated number of teeth on the gears should be larger then 134 for 64dp gears.
oh if you want to use 48dp the number should be greater then 102.

good luck

for the people interested in gearing numbers i made the following spreadsheet for the cyclone.
if the gearing will fit is shown in the table on the right which will turn green for a fitting set and red for something that will not mesh.

just the stock bearing.. I see no need to upgrade to Ceramics unless you're a world class driver. upgrading to expensive ceramic bearings will not make any racer faster. it's Practice! Practice! Practice!!!

Oh YES... totally agree... pimping your ride for speed adds less then 5% pace. You can't buy your way to A1 .
