Hey guys I need your help. My friend and I got the itch to try VTA. He good a smokin deal on a used TC3. I was looking to go with a Sakura, but found found a good deal on a Hot Bodies Cyclone S. It has some upgrades and was nearly VTA ready. Last week I bought a TC3 and a HPI RS4 PRO for $60. The intention was the TC3 to be parts car for my buddy and the RS4 was just Ebay. Well... the TC3 is nearly new and the HPI is a very, very nice car. My LHS still has parts for it as well... Anyways... which car to use?

Any of those chassis's will do well in VTA. Pick one that is closest to what is being run around you so you will not have to struggle with setup support.

excellent advice.

If anyone is looking for an Xray T3 2012 to use for VTA feel free to let me know. I ended up with 3 of these and was originally going to make one a USGT vehicle but from what I have heard it looks like turnout will be either VTA or USGT.

I think a lot of guys at the track use tc3/4's. So, I would guess thats the way I will go. Plus my buddy and I can share parts and set up...

Just be careful not to run out of threads on the axle when you go to wider hexes.
NutDriver, where does it say you can not change offset in the rules?

Chassis rules state on the USVTA website:

Chassis Specification:
Four Wheel Drive touring car chassis only. Any era or brand 4wd chassis is allowed. An Excel spreadsheet gear ratio and final drive ratio calculator for most touring car chassis is available here.

No flame, just wondering because if there is a rule somewhere stating that, I need to change my car back.

Need to say thank you to some fellow VTA racers for coming to Summit in FT Wayne Indiana. We had guys come from Indy,Columbus, Chicago, Grand rapids and Tennessee that attended our race this past Friday night! VTA is alive and well and getting bigger. To all that came out Thank you!
Don't forget round #2 of the triple crown series. USVTA indoor nationals February 21-23.

I don't know of any such rule. You have to use the HPI rims which are a specific offset, but that doesn't mean you can't use wider hexes or different length arms (assuming you can get them for your chassis) Whatever it takes to get a close gap between your fender and your wheel. We all want your ride to look nice.

Had a good time Sam, glad I forced myself to get away for the day. Maybe next time, I'll have something for ya in GT.

I think Brian and I may have been able to run Jeremy down and challenge for third in the main if we hadn't tangled with Von in the middle. Who knows, just as much fun listening to Jonesy and Battman trade paint and wreck each other in Round 2 :-).

I had a lot of fun racing VTA in Ft. Wayne on Friday, especially in the main racing with Eric. I was hoping for a podium as Myron's car was losing a spur gear at the start of the race. Luckily for Myron his car made it to the end before stripping the gear on the last lap.

----------

Speaking of offset, I was using a 1mm shim on my front axles to widen out my TC4 to take away some oversteer. It helped me lock in my qualifying position for the main.
