5000 is the max mAH setting. You set this number so that it is higher than the capacity of the pack to prevent a "capacity cut".
Unmatched cells will usually peak with lower mAH than matched cells. If you tray-discharge your cells prior to charging (preferably not below 0.5-0.6V), you can effectively increase the amount of mAH that goes into the cells during charge.
Step charging will also tend to put more mAH into the pack.

is this a good charger in terms of charging??
To add to what Andy Rhodes said, the V1.0 CM is not outdated. The new 'limited' chargers are meant to be a complement to the original CM, not a replacement.

Nothing that will be noticeable, like with some other chargers. And when they do turn on, they are very quiet.

If I feel sleepy at home, I'll just need to charge something!

Wow, maybe my cell masters are special

I personally don't notice the fans when they do kick on. Out of all the MM gear, I would say the CTXD has fans that are noticible, not the cell master.

You mean yours do not run constantly?? On my charger, as soon as charging begins so do the really really loud fans and they run until the charge is complete. Its a bit distracting.

No, the fans run on my cell master(s) during the charging process, but it is not noticable, at least not to me. Could be that the general noise level at our track that drowns out the fans, or it's the crazy techno on the Ipod

As I stated before, IMO the noise level is minimum compared to some other chargers on the market and even some of the other MM gear.

Default Fans

The fans that come with Cell Master were specially designed for the charger and operate at 12,000rpm at 12V.

Any fan noise is normal and the high power fans keep the unit cool and enable it still to be a relatively small charger.

Thanks,

Keith.
