@Munch, Cobra and I are running Novak Ballistic 21.5 motors. When I get more stick time, we will likely go to Hot Shot Hobbies carpet track in Marietta, GA. We will probably go to The Grove in Rock Hill for fun. They're working on expanding their TC track. I understand that Orangeburg has an outdoor track as well.

TQRC Racing's site lists a "roller diff". Anyone tried one of these?

I did...

The Ball diff has been on back order for a long time so I bought a roller diff and a ball diff gear. So now I have gear, ball, and roller diffs, oh my!

Now I have to go test them all out somewhere...soon!

Novak ballistic and RS pro speedo will be the smallest choices allow better position of speedo and bigger gears on the motor.

any comments on bodies and were to purchase?

Does it worth the extra work to have the pitshumizo on the wills or the grooved tires will do the same.

Just got my FGX IFS from Brad at F1Paintlabs. He has the best price by far. Any suggestions, caveats, etc?

Get the Exo mount for your conversion and use that. Strong and light. I have not mounted one to my McKune but with a little mod on the top brace, make it a bit narrower, I think it will work fine. Next mod is the 1mm plate to strenghten the lower bj mounts.

Fgx is proving to me that it is the most reliable, go-to car when other cars break or when none seem to be set up correctly.
The gear diff and the RIS give an instant boost out of the turns. And I love that noisy transmission.

I would check to see what the folks are racing locally and what the LHS carries. Ed and I vote for the FGX. If it's an outdoor track or bumpy, I lean towards the FGX. If it's smooth indoor carpet, the Tamiya cars might be a better choice.

It is a indoor then I will go outdoors for the summer combo bumpy carpet and smooth outdoors. The guys are running rubber indoors and out doors. If I got a FGX what up grades should I get right away and body?

Thanks Chris

I use tamiya f60 body and it looks decent. The stock body is fine also. For f60, I just had to trim the rear part to make sure nothing touched so the suspension could work properly. The wheelbase is little longer than f104 so the area between the motor and the rear wing is exposed that much more. But when the car is running you don't really notice it.

For correct tires, refer to the last few pages of this thread.

To me the must have hopup parts are
1. the upper exotek suspension arms
2. Front Lower arm reinforcements by exotek
3. Fast gear set and larger pinion.

And the upper deck is another weak area. I broke 2. Exotek carbon fiber v2 chassis is very nice to have.
IFS is not a must have item. I have one but I don't use it.

Fgx rear wheels are toed in while the solid axle, direct drive cars have no rear toe angle. Therefore, the car is more stable but that creates drag. The extra parts in the tranny also create drag and the energy is lost as noise. And you will have to be really good to beat good drivers with f104. But this car is what I ran last night for the main because my f104 broke and f1r didn't have enough steering. And I came in 3rd out of 7 cars where the other 6 were all tamiya cars I think. There are only 2 choices for the front tires and 1 option for the rear (unless you modify the wheels) where as f104 has a dozen options for tires. I just leave the soft/soft for indoor carpet and 33t pinion and the car is always ready to perform.
My challenge is to drive both types of f1 cars better. I need to learn how to set up the cars correctly and master the skills so that I can consistently be on the same number of laps as the top drivers. I have a long way to go but the fgx minimizes my frustrations when the f104 cars fail. Hahaha. I love all my f1 cars, however.

Edit

I just did re-wired and it looks cleaner.

Any motor with the pronounced endbell shoulder like the Thunderpower and Reedy motors work really nice in the FGX. If you want a really inexpensive and small package ESC the Justock, Reventon and Cirtix are all tiny and light. With a 21.5 you just need the one that gives the smoothest feel for you. The RS is great though, just not the lower cost option. Still waiting for the locked blinky Tekin.

Oh Yeah! My FGX came in today and so did the IFS and Sway Bars from Integy. Building should start tonight. Can't wait to get this thing built and on the road.

I may have speed controller and motor that will work for now.

Still have to order tires. Guess I need to do that quickly.
