Tooth pitch only affects durability, and adjustability not ratio ! With the same pitch gears ,48p in this example, it is preferable to use smaller, lighter gears : 52t/36t (3.61fdr) is preferable to 65t/45t (3.61fdr) in all cases , whether you run high power motors or not !!! The goal here is to lighten the drivetrain as much as possible, not to make it heavier !!!!!!

If you want to go further than running smaller tooth gears, you can get yourself the hirosaka pinions and spurs that are not only lighter but also have a reduced friction coefficient compared to most other gears !!! They allow you to run a much higher ratio without heating up your motor and esc !!!!!!!! Cheers.......

The lightest driveline will shine in all conditions !!! Although a heavier driveline is more suitable for extremely long tracks! Most tracks have short straights where acceleration is preferable ! The tc4 driveline has many lighter hop-ups from IRS racing, and I have them in my 3.5R with acer bearings, niftech shaft, lcd drives, hirosaka gears ,etc...(except the titanium wheel axles)...I only burn some 2300mah in a 6minute main while other more experienced racers with newer cars dump their 5300mah 65c packs!!!!! I am also overgeared at 8.4fdr, and overweight at 1527grams, and still have better acceleration and top speed than the other cars eventhough I run a novak gtb! With a tekin rx8 I can run faster and cooler !!!! Team associated did not upgrade the tc4 , you will have to upgrade it yourselves to keep up with the new cars !!!!

Imagine a tekin redline 2.5t with a Rx8 speedo with 8.4fdr in a tc4 ! WOW!!!!!!!!! Uncatchable.....good luck driving smooth,,,, extreme finger control is what you will need !!!!!!!

Hm. I always preferred a little weight in the driveline for med to low grip conditions (rubber tire/asphalt). As the grip came up i would remove the weight (carpet/foams).
IMO, the difference is mostly noticeable at corner entry/middle of the corner (steel front diff), and snap off the corner (low powered stock classes, and i could imagine blinky... with lightweight outdrives). It was always somethin i set the car up with before the race... knowing the conditions of the track in advance... not as a tuning option from qually to qually.
But in all the years i have raced a Tc3/4... ive never noticed a difference that gear pitch or gear material made... other than sound, durability/life span of the pinion/spur, and the weight was honestly negligible.
As far as puttin a 2.5 in the Tc4 goes... i hope you have spare mainshafts. I could chuck em with boosted 13.5.

I have other tc4's without all these hop-ups, and I can feel the difference exiting turns: they accelerate slower eventhough I have irs spool and litedrives in them!!! As far as driveshafts goes, I use Ae aluminum shafts for up to 13.5 blinky, and niftech titanium for mod !!! One thing I do though is make my shafts float slightly back and forth 1/8th of an inch ; that slows the wobbling quite a bit , and allows the shaft to handle a little more load !!!!!!!

I forgot to mention that I am also running a floating titanium niftech shaft in my 4.5HV tc4 at 4s without any shaft issues at all ! Another reason why the tc4 shafts bend is the front cvd's ! You should run losi lcd's only in the front, even if you have a front diff !!!!! I learn that the hard way, blowing my front input shaft bearings all the time !!!!!!!!

If anyone runs mod, I have an LRP Vector x-12 4.0 motor for sale.
Run a few times, never overheated, and cheap. Hardly used since all they run is stock around here.

Sorry no pictures yet. Maybe in a couple of months, I am working double nowadays ! As far as the niftech shaft twisting or bending, I would say if you ran front cvd's with spool, and a non floating shaft it is easily possible in mod, but if you run front lcd's with a floating shaft, then it will be almost impossible, unless you hit the wall full speed ...

Tc3/4 main shafts are designed to be "floating" shafts... so i dunno why thats an option in this discussion.
My Niftech Ti shaft was twisted (i didnt say bent) running mod on carpet/foams. I wasnt the only one to have it happen... and it didnt involve walls. Just good old HP and high grip. This was also using Niftechs SWD aluminum bones and outdrives... nothin like a $500 Niftech driveline in a $200 tub car.
All that ground has been covered... more than once. lol While the Losi drives you are referring to may help reduce drivetrain friction between the outdrive and CVD bone... it would make the difference mostly on power... comin off corners or through certain sweepers/chicanes. Off power steering is least affected.

I had a good day racing, I qualified 5th out of 9. Car handled very well I was lacking speed on the straight not because of gearing, but ESC end RPM being too high. In the start of the main as normal you have to watch the car behind you and not the one in front. I finished 6th, I should have changed my gearing after adjusting end RPM on the ESC I was way over geared.
