VCS2 :NOT worth it if you ask me, even if it was half the price.
For roughly 80 bucks you can have the tamiyas which are the stallion of the class.
I for one have a strong preference for Xrays because of the externally adjustable piston. The hassle of unmounting, opening, emptying, refilling the shocks , pumping, setting rebound, etc...and having liters of oil on your hands has proven very dissuasive to play with damping and that's a shame since it's a very important parameter. I think the xray shocks could be a real help to increase anyone's setup skills in that area.
For us mere mortals their smoothness is very comparable to the tamiyas, they just look a little less bling. Oh, and the xray bottom o ring lasts about 5 time longer than the tamiya ones.
hope this helps !

Really don't have 80 bucks to drop on shocks. 15 for an upgrade kit is much more reasonable to me if they are easier to make even etc. For 80$, I can go to 4 more races at the local track, making me a better driver. To a teenager novice like me, I think that would be more important. But would putting Xray/Tamiya shocks on be that much an improvement over VCS2 shocks? And how much better would the VCS2 shocks be than the VCS?
Thanks, Dan.
Thanks, Dan.

Realistically I would not even bother with the upgrade. Just get the bleeder caps and build them the normal way.
Just Instead of screwing the cap on a little bit then pushing in the piston to remove the air. Tighten the bleeder caps all the way. Remove the screw and the. Bleed the air out that hole
Works great for me at I can get more precise shocks each time

If you're really beginnng, then I guess jdeadman's advice makes sense.
Just use the regular shocks , but use green slime on the O-rings and rod, that is really useful and makes a world of difference, no joke ! and for 3 dollars you're not risking much.

Hey guys. I'm still using the VCS shocks on my tc4. Should I upgrade to VS2 or VCS3 (though I couldn't find any upgrade kits, only full kits for two shocks @50$ each! )? What are the advantages to this? And also what do bleeder caps do/how do they work? Do you bleed the shock with the cap on and let the air come out the top?? Should I be using those? Thanks!!
VCS3 does not have an upgrade because it is a completely different design. The body is new accepting a single o-ring with spacers and the seal is bottom loaded with an aluminum cap versus the top load friction plug of the VCS and VCS2. "Upgrading" to the VCS3 from a regular VCS does not retain any re-usable parts except for the ball cup.

VSC2 is a good upgrade. Personally I used them on my TC5 for the 2 years I ran it I only rebuilt them when I wanted to change the weight of the oil for tuning. I never leaked and they never changed from the day I built them. The advantages over the standard VCS is that with the upgrade you will have a bladder shock which is easier to build consistently and if you like zero-rebound (i do) you can get that with this upgrade. Also you don't have the time wear and tear of the VCS foam.

The TRF are well worth the money

Take your old shocks are put them up for sale on dirtoval.com. They are worth about $25 for the set in good condition.
Silky smooth Tamiya dampers for about $30, can't go wrong
