Ok wondering if someone can help me, just bought a second hand RDX. the rear diff felt VERY gritty, I pulled it apart and regreased the diff balls (talk about bone dry) now when reassembled, no matter how loose or tight the diff is, it's still a bit gritty and I can detect some slip at almost any tension level.

What should I be looking for to fix this?

Check the thrust bearing too.

Change the diff balls and rings.

Does it have the updated bolt with the shoulder?

In addition to the above suggestions, replace the snap ring that holds the thrust bearing in. I believe Specialized RC (Corally USA's aftermarket brand) offers an updated version. A big portion of diff issues can be traced back to a bent or improperly seated snap ring.

Check out this guide on how to build diffs, too, it's excellent.

Question to all you that have purchased the new style front and rear arms. Has anyone had to file the openings that fit the hubs? I've found that with the hard thickness arms (35)I've had to file the openings to fit the hub. The website said they've got "High precision production and super tight tolerances". I don't mind the extra work but just wondering if I got an old batch or something.

The most over looked peice in a diff is the thrust bearing. Replace it! and all problems will be solved!

Yep, had to do the same thing. Probably better to have them tighter to begin with, then you don't have to shim the play out.

yeah i just had the same problem with my diff a few days ago. i put in a whole new thrust bearing and it was good as new. the diff would loosen and tighten during runs and feel tight in certian spots while spinning the outdrives. i overlooked thinking that it was the thrust bearing and after rebiulding it twice with the same results i decided to change the thrust bearing and that was the problem all along.

btw.. i just got one of those delrin spools and those things are trick... very nice kudo's to corally..

Nice , but don't use it if your running on a track that's hard on cars. You'll be replacing it quickly.

Jeff,

A nice Xmas present would be an updated Setup Sheet for our RDXs.

Merry Christmas.

maybee a dum question, but with spool how often do you change the blades?
I drive 4-5, 5minutes race and then it's time to chnage, anybody with the same problem?

With the Alu spool yeah i even drive 2*5min runs because of the mod classe Brushless or 7T motors!
But i drive with the Delrin spool and i drive about 10 or 15 times 5+min and the blades are still good but not optimal!

Greetings Ollie
