You've owned every TRF and you believe the MSRP?

Im really surprised they have given that a new model number.
Look at the TRF history, with each model number change there have been significant design changes, 414, 415, 416
Look at the 415 series, from first to last model there were more changes than whats being put forward in this model.

Well it has been almost 3 years since the 416 came out. I guess they thought it was about time it had a new model name.

When the hole pattern changes in the main chassi so it no longer can be made backward compatible the model number goes up.
As an example: 416X can still mount the old front bulkheads from 416.
Same pattern goes for 414 and 415.

I agree with you.
But I think the big marketing failure of tamiya was that they have sold trf416 lipo chassis. So now everybody forgets that this is the first real lipo chassis of tamiya.
To my opinion trf417 is a significant other car than the trf416,we,x , despite it's not that obvious. Even so I'm a little bit disappointed that they didn't manage to get the motor closer to centerline (only 2mm - i think about 5mm would have been much better and possible)

Very true, but to me it is more important that the motor is moved forward again to get better balance front to rear with lipo. Then there are the small things like taller shock towers for more grip (anyone remember the preproduction 415 towers marc always ran?), a new hole for longer camber links, wheel axles that dont require setscrews which in turn free them up, and shorter ballstuds in the steering that are less likely to bend.

I had the 416X li-po chassis with the carbon arms to hold the battery in, from the pics above it looks like they have done away with them or maybe just not using them

Not long now till we get some official show pictures

Alot of people choose not to use them as they are not really needed if your lipo pack has mounting bumps on the underside like lrp/ nosrams and speed powers etc

IMHO i think the 417 looks great after all it is hard to make the best car on the market much better
