Dunno what your running front/rear then but at the rear/front it would be 1XA.
Some of the split blocks you can swap from left to right to get a different angle.
You won't get this with the one piece blocks.
Just dismount one and see what you got.

Thanks for the info. It looks like the car has some front sweep, (Front Front block is 1C, and the Front Rear are the split blocks, the Front rear are the split blocks and the Rear Rear is a 1E). Sorry if i'm sound dumb but this is my first tamiya.

Stitchy,
When are the 417X kits suppose to get to your store? Was it sometime next week or do you have an exact date when they come in?
Thanks in advance!

TA-mee-ya USA received them yesterday and should have started shipping to distributors already. We should have them by mid-next week:smile:

Split blocks

Quick question....when using the split blocks, what are people using as spacers.

I saw a blog with pictures of the new 417X and it looked like he had small spacers under each split block.

Does Tamiya make these? or are they aftermarket?

Thanks Greg G

Personally, I just use the same spacers as for the wheelbase and camber links... I think the Kentech blog you saw, he was running cut down standard suspension block shims.

Finally, I found a solution to premature wear in diff caps. I know blades are a consumable, but not in two runs with new diff cups.

You need: mini drill, damaged diff cups, associated 3.5mm blades 31238 and 3.5mm diamond bite

First, take your damaged diff cups, a diamond bite of 3.5mm and make the groove more wider until asso blade fit good.

Second, make holes of blade little wider with a screw driver or something until move freely and put into shaft pin.

Enjoy your car for many many runs without thinking in shaft blades.

I can't put some pics because forum permissions, sorry.

Kentech or anyone who is done building the 417x! does the front belt rub onto the right steering post? I seen seen photos and it seems very close?

Qatmix 12-13-2011 11:32 PM

It's the same on the 417, the belt can brush against the servo mount. I tried shimming the centre pulley over a little and that helps it move away.

Servo mount (noun) a rc device some people use to tweak their chassis :D

Use the older NSX bodies starting at 2004 Ebro, Lambo, Skyline, Ferrari, these work also Mercedes, Honda HSV.

?

I purchased some custom painted bodies and was intending on running them on a x ray t2 008 that i never ended up getting. Can someone tell me if the xray T-3 hole pattern fit on a TRF 417? From pictures I've found on the net it looks like it will.

Many thanks in advance...!

Front hole spacing is the same. Rear hole spacing on the Tamiya is about 1/2" different than the XRay, I can't remember if it's narrower or wider. What I've done is oval out the holes and shoe goo a piece of lexan to the inside of the body.

Any tips on building gear unit? just dont want any future leaks! Has anyone used anti grease instead of oil?

Jilles already made a video regarding the gear diff build. U can check the video at redrc.

The Tam diff is pretty leak free, most of the issues result from stripped gears if the mesh is out, and the shims cone.

Have a look at these tips from Jilles, and also look on youtube for his video.

For the shim issue, I've just replaced the standard shims with 1x 0.3mm thick shim, and also kept the outer diameter to the same size as the pin, to stop the outer regions coning.

while building the 417x I noticed the hole on the bottom deck battery holder in the middle, with the trf etched on it, lines up with the top deck where the belt tensioner screws in, so to make the chassis stiffer could you not run a post there and screw the top and bottom deck together in the middle as well, do you think it would be better, I am thinking less flex for carpet, any toughts on this or will not work, or cause a difference

Qatmix 12-18-2011 11:52 AM

That would stiffen the chassis a bit more, although who knows what the resulting effect will be on the handling. I stiffened mine at the front with a shaft from the steering bridge. I only tried it for one session and was indifferent to the results, but I will try it again.

Blueman Austria 12-18-2011 11:58 AM

Hy!

Are the new X Orings supplied in the new X kit? Anybody tried it yet? are they a direct replacement for the standard blue o-Rings?

Greetings Rainer

zaraz 12-18-2011 12:31 PM

no you get the regular clear o rings, you do not get the blue ones, but they are a direct fit

hotdognobun 12-18-2011 05:31 PM

x ring

just installed 70 x rings with TRF VG 45weight oil and the movement seems slow so i guess when using thick oil use x ring 50 and 70 when using 35 or below? i will let you guys know! As for leaks well i still recvomend green slime!

Posted on TamiyaUSA website for the X-Ring:
These Damper X-rings have X-shaped cross-sections and offer increased oil sealing effect compared to standard O-rings with circular cross-sections. Made from special silicone material, these X-rings also maintain their shape, and therefore their sealing ability, for a longer period of time. This makes them ideal for use with Aeration Dampers such as Item 42198 Buggy HL Aeration Damper Set and Item 54028 Buggy Aeration Oil Filled Damper Set. Item 42214 is designed for use with silicone damper oil while Item 42215 is for mineral based damper oil.
