I see. I think the problem would be making sure the battery placement is identical, both side to side and fore and aft, every time you strap it in. I don't see why you would elect to not use at least the lighter carbon pieces. I think I will stick with them... and the awesome guys at speedtech are ordering me a full set.

Yeah that's no good, and certainly not a problem with the tape. A quick little wipedown with some alcohol will clean it right up. Don't forget, if you DO put the tape down onto a battery that dirty, you need to change out the tape.

Be careful with the carbon pieces, I've seen them puncture a Lipo in a crash

Does temperature come into it at all? I kind figured 50 for winter and 70 for summer, but I always use AE Silicone oils. I've only tried the 50's so far in winter, and only a couple runs. My AE shocks didn't like the X-Rings, but my TRF shocks seem fine with them. I'll be trying them in my Schui shocks soon.

Check them out at the following:
Tamiya 42214 RC Damper X-Rings - 50 Durometer / 8pcs
Tamiya 42215 RC Damper X-Rings - 70 Durometer / 8pcs

Both quotes "Item 42214 is designed for use with silicone damper oil while Item 42215 is for mineral based damper oil."

I'm using X-Ring for silicone oil. I find them just as smooth as TRF blue but leak less, they leak about the same as stock clear one I guess. Has anyone tried fitting with green slime or is this a bad idea?

They look like the caps from the TRF buggies. Bought some to try what Jilles has there but never bought the screws =s

Hey,
I`m planing to get a Tamiya 417x,
but looking at tamiya usa it is listed as discontinued.
Would it be wiser to wait for a new model or just go for the 417x?

This will be my first Tamiya pro touring, currently running 3racing XI-DH
Kinda ennoying to by the car if they release a 418 the week after :-)

I am on the same page as you. I am very interested in possibly getting this car as well. I noticed they are coming out with a limited edition 417X "Reedy Race Edition"

I am having trouble trying to find a place to buy the thing. I notice the 417 Gear Diff Version II but waiting for the reedy edition. Anyone have any ideas where to buy it or if it's just direct from Tamiya?
