Around here, Indianapolis, mod doesn't exist. It's usgt, vta, 17.5 or don't race. So motor, battery, or body of the week. None of our indoor tracks are even big enough to use a mod motor power, so that right there would equalize field.

You can only go so fast before you are blowing your car to pieces by wrecking. Somebody pull you on the straight, well they better know how to brake, or they will break.
unsure if you're agreeing or disagreeing

Not everyone can drive mod. GT is supposed to be a fun class hence capping at 17.5 and also making it different to 21.5 TC

I think it's working, just needs more traction

Also getting blasted on the straight, actually has a lot to do with how you come out of the corner. The guys that seem faster are carrying more speed and get on throttle sooner. Speed on the straight is greatly effected by setup and driving
actually, he hit the wall before the straight and still pulled us. Doesn't hold water in this case.

the point is, it's supposed to be equal in stock (remember handouts) and it's supposed to be for intermediate racers.

What happens is the big dogs that can't cut it in mod, run stock to pump egos. Then the guys in stock start getting beat, so those that can afford it buy better gear. This is the top 20%, which leaves the other 80% hung out to dry. This causes many to quit and thus depleting the ranks, tracks close, etc.

This IS what's happening, shouldn't we do what's good for the many?

As far as a $150 cap, that's about double what it should be. USGT is supposed to be a class that is slower/appealing to newer racers. Motor cap of $80, min wt back up to 1450g (to get those tub chassis guys back in). Tire rule and body rules work the way they are just fine.

I'm just stating stock racing is always most expensive. Around here, mod does not exist. So whether you are pro or hack, usgt, vta, and 17.5 are your only options.

I don't know if someone posted this but fixed timing will only work if the motor manufacturer can't build motors that are within a couple of degrees, motor to motor and batch to batch. That also goes for the rotor strength, symmetry and stator resistance. At a manufacturing price of $25/motor that is very hard to do. A supplier going through 1000+ motors to verify this also takes time and time is $$$. If it could be done it would be fantastic but from my manufacturing experience I know it would be very tough.
Not raining on the parade, just pointing out the reality of mass manufacturing and the tolerances needed to make us happy.

it was for the motor but we also use it for offroad so for those that run it in a buggy they can switch over.

only way lock time motors work, if a club or event uses the same motor company. You cant mix and match...New Reedy lock motors are set at 45 deg...while others like the HW are 30 deg...

also a cap isnt going to solve it also. Even if I wasnt sponsored, and the motor was a spec motor with a cap at $80, Im well off to purchase 4 or more to get a good one...so I have a $320 motor, until I sale the other 3 off to the new kid looking to get in the class.....

humm, that $150 motor starting to look good to me....

but FYI...there is a motor that is just as fast if not faster than those high priced motors, and I was very impressed this weekend...

I find it funny that some people will Rationalize, that the Rising cost of RC equipment is a Good thing for the Hobby.
The price for Entering and Remaining in VTA / GT RC racing is high enough.
Some say well you dont need that expensive equipment but if you dont have good stuff you are automatically at a disadvantage.
For Me I think $150 is too much for a motor. I guess thats the price to be paid to try to be competitive, every 6-9 months . ( I dont consider myself competitive in GT)
My motors are all a Generation Old (or more ) and the new motors keep getting faster.

What kind of resistance numbers are people getting on the new V2 motors? I'm wondering because this is where most of the power gains are going to come in.

hot motors are in the 27.5-29 range per coil.
rotor and timing will change its power band and fade .
ive played with gearing/timing from 3.6-4.0 with similar results on fast lap but have different fade results .
motors with epoxy have less fade ive noticed also

Well that's fine if you want to spend that much but 95% would benefit, besides there isn't a 30% power difference at that price point. Remeber it's not whats good for you, it's what's good for the masses. Narrow point of view doesn't help everyone!

It might not solve it but it would certainly tighten things up and lower costs for the masses.
