Unfortunately... the only way to really use a mill to do up a chassis like mine or Brian's would be to have a very expensive mill (5 axis I believe) and a set of pretty elaborate fixtures to hold the chassis at various angles for each surface...

There are a number of pictures of Kinwald's extra-milled chassis designs on this very website. Check the events section:

Damn Steve, that's a crazy cut job, how many hours did that take. The mill I am looking at is an 8 axis mill, so I dont think I'll have any problems like that, but I have a feeling the first thing I'll be milling will be a jig to work on the XXXS

The average 5 axis CNC milling machine would cost more than $200,000.

XXXS Tips?
Looks like I came to the right place!
I have just finished my first race meet in about 10 years, used to do a lot of off road when the Optima Mid was around. I got a XXXS for my birthday recently, so built it straight out of the box as the book said. (My fingers hurt after all those horrible little hex bolts).
Took it along to the race meeting, and it was slow. Not horribly so, but nowhere near as competitive as I was expecting. (My brother's Tamiya beat me a lot, and he was flipping it all over the place).
Brought it home after a fun day out, and the first thing that struck me was that while running around the track, it sounded nice and quiet, but if I raise all four wheels off of the floor, it sounds like a tractor, with lots of spin down (probably the wrong term to use) time on the back wheels. I also noticed that if I put the back wheels on the floor and ran it, it completely cut all drive to the back wheels, didn't even try and fight out of it.
I tightened up the rear diff, to see if that made any difference. It still sounds horrible, but now it does have drive to the back wheels. Difference in the handling is horrible though. Where as before, I was fighting to stop the back end flying out around bends, now I am fighting to turn a corner within eyeshot.
Some background info on car setup as it stands now.
Standard build apart from:
27 tooth pinion gear
Trinity Revenge of the Monster Pro (club runs all stock motors)
Sonic3 (?) Forwards only ESC
Any tips would be greatly appreciated, preferably in newbie terms so I can understand them!
Thanks
Ian
