My SMC pack came from RCMarket, with the roar sticker round the outside. I think most of the problems have been with the packs with wires, my pack has the 4mm bullets and has been fine since I've bought it.

I've got 2 of the SMC 1S 4900 50C packs.
1 puffed, 1 did not.
Both are marginal after 2 runs on the same day.

The Reedy 4600's I have are far more consistent, Have more run time, have more punch, and are more or less the same every run.

Same here, might be a bit older than that, but no problems. All my packs prior to that in the black cases and external wires have "puff syndrome". I also have a EPIC IB5000/40 pack which has had no isuues. All charged at 1c and never deep discharged.

i have 2 28c 9000mah 2s SMC packs and both are very low punch and puffed within just a few uses, even when geared very conservatively. my 20c 5000mah turnigy lipos have more power and punch and have yet to swell, even under much harder use than the SMC packs.

there are two brands of lipos i will always avoid like the plague:
maxamps
SMC

i have had very good luck with every other brand i have tried, but turnigy really seems to stand out from the crowd. they are very good given their c ratings. they have incredible punch and i have had only 1 20c pack swell slightly after using it in my 1/8 buggy geared for over 50mph on a day when it was 110f outside.

i just ordered one of the new turnigy nano-tech 45c packs and will report back on its performance.

I use the SMC 4600mah 25C 1 cell lipos and have had no problems so far, but my friend says his is "bloated", "puffed" whatever. Everything I'm reading on this thread has me worried though. Anyone have any experience with the Team Checkpoint lipos, specifically the 1 cell? Are they more reliable than the SMC packs? Which brands are recommended?

It would be great if someone compiled a list of good lipo batteries and a list of ones to avoid. My friends and I race on a low budget and can't afford to waste our money on lipos that wear out so quickly. Sounds like many of you are in the same situation!

I have been beating the crap out of a Thunder Power 40c 5000 for well over a year in sedan and dirt oval (mod sprint car). It's still a great pack. I also have Orion and IP batteries, which have been good. The Thunder Power is my favorite however.

Yes sir, I couldn't agree more. I've ran almost two seasons on one LiPo and never had a problem. The only problem with ThunderPower I have, is that they're always back orderd. So it takes awhile to for them to get more LiPos in the stores, and when they do they sell quick.

Another vote for TP here - their 1C pack is still going (very!) strong after almost one year.

My SMC 1S 5300 pack is also good, and it too came from SMC and has tubes not wires. HTH

I bought a SMC 4100 mAH 24c and this battery is one tough one

I liked the battery so I decided to buy 2 x 40c 5200mAh from SMC

They dont eat more than 4500 mah... they are only 20-30 charges on them and I can see that they want to puff a little

my next packs will be hyperions G3

my friends are charging them to 4c-5c no problem and they run much stronger than any of my current packs

anyways not flaming SMC but I just had bad experiance with my 2 x 40c

nothing to say about my 4100/24c ( I think it has way more punch than my 40c)

Do not buy ANY cells from RC Market...
I have had opened packets and resealed, Balance lead broken off..and generally crap cells.. and when i ask the question why?
They say to take it up with SMC..and I did..

The SMC with the "roar" sticker..US packs seem to be the go...(maybe they are the better ones and the crap goes to Hong Kong?.(Is that why there is a US $50 dollar difference between the US shops and the Hong Kong shops?).

I emailed SMC about this problem..And after 4 months and a few RCtech Posts..I recieved 1 new 5400 cell..Pity as I have 2 that were no good..but something is better than noting..

I have bought some SMC from RC mushroom. with "roar sickers". ( i couldnt help myself, price $79 US as to $129 US)..They seem to be ok so far, so dont get from RC Market and you should be ok?

I had the SMC 4900 1 cell x 3 .They swelled after one run..But the 5200 1 cell...seem to be ok.so far.
I reakon they had a dud batch world wide and sold anyway..Much to their demise...seems it was the 4900 and the 5200....
Ive had the IP swell as well...Seems to me its the luck of the draw as to the good and bad cells..Doesnt matter what you buy..

Remmeber guys..MASS PRODUCTION.....poor quality control = crap cells...easy..

Mike
This might make sence... My SMC 4100 mAH 24 c has the Roar stickers
and this battery is awesome!!!!

my 40c 5200 mAH smc seems to be cheap batterys and it has no Roar stickers

does that mean they are not genuine SMC & fake ?

One day all of you will come to realise that HK online stores are the major dumping ground for factory rejected goods more with esc's and batterys than anything else especially when you see pricing that not even the factory can make it for that price then you will understand.
