to figure rollout you take the diameter of the tire times 3.14, divide that number by your spur/pinion. Example: 50mm tire x 3.14 = 157. 157/(100/25)= a rollout of 39.25.
|
And that tells me what exactly?
|
how to get the optimum roll out to use for each motor from 27t down to 10t all using 6 cells...or maybe is there any website that has a good starting roll out for each motor...anyone??
|
trikster, the roll out lets you keep your motor geared the same as the tires get smaller or when you put on a new set of tires.
freshjive, i don't think there is an exact formula. You can try team associated's site www.rc10.com. For a 11x2 I had a roll out of 41 and for a stock motor i ran it near 50, but that is 4-cell. You might want to try gearing just a little lower than that. |
petenis & dave s, I think that I will be able to race with you guys on saturday night. Too bad you guys only want to race stock, I just got a new Carrera 12x2 to try. It will be the first run on my cut chassis and AE rear pod, fun:nod:
|
Daves........I "was" waiting on Knife rear springs.....got em'........i'm just getting started with the Knife,so i'm no expert...but, i think most peeps use the 10 degree front blocks.....CRC's site has several setups...try those.....I race on Ozite....here is where i'm going to start....."KNIFE"....purple fr./grey rr......10* blocks...020 spring..new fr. end...one white spacer each side.......rear end.....red spring...lowered rear pivot balls.....zero droop.......3.5mm ride height fr/rr......40wt. oil.....Losi hydra fluid(med.) side tubes....thats it.Oh yeah...we run 4 cell/Chameleon.....G/R of 26 or 27-100....Tire dia. of 1.8"...track is 36' by 62'

I don't think Darnold hit a hole in one. I think he fell into the hole. Still haven't seen him on Sports Center.

Avink1,
We would prefer to run mod, but a few guys last weekend said they were just starting out, so we figured stock would equal less broken parts for the newbies. See ya Saturday! |
Dave S, Its probably better then. Plus I don't want to rebuild my 3000s into 4-cell packs right now, I'm using them in the B3. My 2400s won't last a mod race, it will be interesting to see if they will even finish a stock race anymore. It will be fun. How many people are going to be racing? You, Pete, and I make 3, just kinda hopeing for a couple more than that. Let me know if you or Pete need a stocker to run, I got a bunch of MVPs and even a Paradox.
|
Dave S, try to get there early on Saturday. I will help you with stuff on the carpet knife.
|
on a carpet knife, run either a red or copper AE center spring. .20-.24 front springs, white or red side springs, hydra drive med or heavy dampner tube goo. purple + gray tires. the magic is in that mess somewhere

Hey guys, how are things going? Been up at the office with some important meetings along with doing some work from the home.
DaveL- I'm working on that Sports Center High light but Tiger has at least 20 years of practice and playing on me. LOL Oh yeah, the park that I practice in down the street does have a lot of "holes" in it so I do have to watch my step. LOL DaveS- I would use the same setup for stock as mod just dial out 4-5 notches of steering throw on the transmitter. Roll out for a stock I don't have much of a clue but a guess at a starting point for an MVP/Green Machine would be 33/100 at 1.85" rears and I would go 2 teeth down for a good ole Copper motor (what are those Trinity Stock Motors that everyone uses called again???) LOL. Oh, about the Knife, I really never came to terms with that car especially for mod. It's a great stock racer but you know me, I only race mod although I did run stock with it for the first 6 mos I was back into the hobby. Keep an eye on the links and maybe change them out every month and re-set the football. The setup given so far for you by Shrekair sounds good. Try 60-80wght in the center shock for stock. Most of the performance extras in racing I believe more and more are in the build of the car. That's where you "think" through the car and make little changes here and there as you put it together that you think will benefit the car. ie: Knife has a short wheelbase so using Kimbrough Axle Cams that are offset will allow you to lengthen it some and add some stability (now why didn't I think of that when I ran that car, doh)LOL. You may also want to lower the rear roll center by ordering from Frank the shorter ball studs for the links and using less washers under the rear pivot (football) since this will give more rear grip while raising the center shock at the front mount should make the car more consistent in its forward traction characteristics. I only wish I knew and understood two seasons ago what little I have learned in the last 8 months!!! Petenis- Glad to hear the car is working so well. You still may want to get a new chassis plate and do all of the prep work to it just in case. Dragon Slayer- How are things going? Jonny Socko- Maybe sometime next month when business is sorted out you can get up here and I'll be able to take you to Venture for a practice session during the week since that's when the carpet track can be run on. Glad to see (read actually) so many new faces on the forum, keep the info and stories going, i'm going out to the crator filled park at hit a few balls. LOL |
Hey Dave, glad to see you are still swinging. By the way, do you know what you have when you lengthen a Carpet Knife? Conceptually you would have a REV3.
|
It's raining out so I'm still on.
DaveL- I had it in mind and just tried to slip it past. hehehe Plus the Rev3's side dampers are more sensitive to fluid changes which I think really helps to adjust turn-in characteristics without having to change front spring rates first. If people have the Knife already I think they can use the Rev3 dampers. Just another example of "thinking through the car in your build stage". Deiter, Josh, Barry, Paul Lemieux, Blackstock, Lufaso and Jucha are really good at this just to name a few. Me...I'm still learning. |
dave,
this is james Edwards from minnesota, whats up? are you swinging by for oktoberfast for a couple days of racing this fall? nice to hear from you again. James |
