what do you think about the differences? in terms of costs and performance

Budget vs. Performance. I would take performance every time.

Depending on the competition where you race, Budget only gets you into the entry level of the 1/12th Mod class. Otherwise, Performance gives you a chance to win against other similarly equipped cars.

Initially, the electronics (servo, receiver and speedo) are the more important elements because the motor and batteries are disposables.

Of course, if you can win with Budget, you may be a darn good driver in comparison to your competition.

Track specific tire question...?

Our local carpet track is using carpet that is NOT "ozite" -- it is more of an "office"/"indoor-outdoor" carpet... It works OK, etc. and is "fuzz" free, etc. which is nice -- the problem is that it is ABRASIVE and that it is a bit lower in traction. This combination is very hard on tires -- especially REAR tires...

I am currently running the standard GRAY rear, PURPLE front combination. The front tire wear is not great, but still acceptable. The rear tires are just wearing WAY too fast! I have to make gearing changes during the day to keep the rollout right!

What 'dot' will give me a bit more traction on the rear, with longer tire life? I know those two things tend to work in opposite directions, but with all the standard/exotic/natural compounds out there, I have to believe there is a better foam than 'Gray'...?

Would 'PINK' work? Would 'MAGENTA' be too firm (not enough "bite")? (JACO? CRC? TRC?)

JRX-S Bill; Hi Bill could you post your setup you use for Stockton? Did you race at Gilroy last Fri, and if you did what changes did you make? Iam having a little trouble getting my 12L3 setup, tire dia. springs, ride height. Thanx in advance hope you can make it to Gilroy this Fri. Big Bill

RC12L3a - Car 2. *But* if you can't run a clean race the electronics may not make much difference. Track time is everything, if your not fast you won't be any faster with better electronics. However, if you can afford good electronics definately buy them, but only becuase it will save you money in the future. Good batteries can be bought very cheap Hurricane is selling 2 6 cell packs 1.165-1.169v 420sec for $70 and 1.165-1.169v with 390sec for $60. That's $20 to $23 per 4 cell pack. It's cheaper to buy matched packs then unmatched. Don't worry too much about the motor. Spend your money on the charger, esc, radio and servo and then buy high end batteries(1.18v+) and motors later on.

Just my take...

Most of the time you want the chassis and the rear pod level. Now for the dampening the thicker the grease/oil you put on the slower the side to side (and a little forward) weight transfer will be as vice versa for thinner grease/oil. Most f the time people use Associated green slime or Trinity White Stuff on the front king pins. I believe there are a few differnet springs for the dampening post but I just use the standard factory ones provided. Hope this helps!
Thank you very much, I really appreciate the help.

i got the same question

edit.

gacjr0 11-25-2004 10:22 AM

1: don't hit stuff
2: don't crank down on the diff
3: double check the cone washer and hub to make sure it's not damaging the bearing
4: don't hit stuff
5: make sure you're axle isn't binding (the axle spacers line up) and it's shimmed side to side so that its not binding/too much play and the right width

RC12L3a 11-25-2004 12:17 PM

ok i know i have been repeating myself but still the questions:

1. which company makes foams that are as grippy as jaco pink for the rear and double pink for the front? (company name and "colour" mark for the foam pls")

2. which company makes the hardest and cheapest rim?

i hope to cut down practising costs by gluing my own tires

million thx:nod:

Big Bill,

For the most part, I am using Lex Tyler's original setup which relys on standard kit parts.

For tires, I have Double Pink fronts (initially cut to 1.75"/44.5mm) and White rears (cut to 1.95"/49.5mm).

Ride height is about 4.5mm/3.5mm (front/rear).

Not too sofisticated with gearing year. Have a 25 or 26 pinion with a 100 ring gear.

Watch out for the flanged bearing in the diff. Because it is under side load, it is prone to being damaged when you hit things. I just had to change mine last night.

sKiMpYbOy 11-25-2004 12:44 PM

what would be the best make of flange bearing to get for the rear axle????
