if you tire is spinning out of round its due to a few different things most likely
-tire is not trued (the biggest one, and sometimes truer's arbors are not always true, so sometimes you can be truing the tire to be out of round) -the wheel is warped, with the current 12th scale wheels very unlikely (although it does happen alot in rubber sedan rims), more likely the 12th scale wheel is broken or cracked -out of balance: very unlikely, the tire and wheel is so light it doesnt really matter, and lead tape would probably be way to heavy. a little slop in the bearings is okay, it shouldnt affect handling that much, normally its almost everything else that causes problems in 12th scale. on another topic...unfortunatly the daytona prototypes wouldnt work too well for an rc body, the trend has been towards the lowest profile and highest downforce for 12th scale. the DP's however have very high cockpits intentionally (as to allow saftey workers to get drivers out) which is obviously a mute issue in rc. and the rest of the car really doesnt lend itself to be copied into a rc body. i personally think that they are hidious and porsche should be ashamed for letting brumos race something that ugly with their name. besercoe- if you check back within this page or the last one i basically explained why i personally love my speedmerchant, and why i prefer it over the crc, which is very similar. as to why it is better overall than other cars, check out speedmerchant's website, since they go into a great amount of depth as to why their design is truly superior to cars that have t-plates and other suspensions. iraceinc- what do u you mean by adjustable higne pins? and which front end? the dynamic strut or the old style one? |

Question: the Rolex Sports Car Series (www.grandamerican.com ) just debuted the Daytona Prototypes class at the Rolex 24 hours of Daytona. If they were made aerodynamically sound for RC racing, would you use one of those types of bodies if they were ever made. If so, what?

The speedmerchant is a good car. I only have 2 gripes about it though. It should have the lowered rear pods. Although its not a big deal. Second they don't have pre drilled servo mounts. Which again isn't a big deal at all. Every one I race with runs 12L's or CRC and my car is just as fast as theirs. I usually get 2nd or 3rd. I just had to get the handling how I liked it. I just started racing 12th scales for about 2 months now. I learned that I can't sauce up the tires before the heats or else it handles like crap and pushes midway through the turn.

while lowered pods are nice to get an extra few runs out of your tires, the probem is that the tires dont handle as well when they are that small. there needs to be enough foam on the rim in order for the tire to behave properly, and when you run lowered bulkheads and run the tires down to the rim you are asking for problems most of the time. As far as the servo holes not being pro drilled, you really cant have them predriller, since some people like to run standard size servo's, and other run smaller ones, and the smaller ones are not exactly the same size.

Sneak Peak - New Protoform Ascari 1/12th body
1 Attachment(s)
Here is a sneak peak of the new Protoform Ascari body. This thing makes the car stick like glue to the track! I have never run the Parma Speed 8 so I can't compare to it but the new Protoform will certainly get people talking. The open cockpit design is different and looks kewl. Oh yah, and the paint scheme in the picture is awesome too!!

new 12th scale chassis
I'd like to know what the interest would be from 12th scale racers on a thicker, high-grade carbon fiber, chassis plate. It is being designed for the RC 12L and would work best in higher bite situations where too much chassis flex can hurt performance. I can't go into further details at this time, but please let me know if this would be something that you would be interested in. We'll add info on our site when more is available and please feel free to email me directly with your input. [email protected]
Thanks a ton! Ben, Team PRP |

Tires being true and wheels being balanced can be two different things. I don't believe that our wheels are typically dynamically balanced very well and i have heard that Masami use to balance his 12th scale wheels/tires.
This would probably be done by using a prop or wheel balancer (i think Trinity makes one for wheels) and some hot glue but not lead tape. In the case described it appears that the person is simply noticing that the same side keeps coming up/down thus indicating/showing an imbalance. A little trick i was told a few months ago is that you can look at the side of the tire on your axle when you spin it and if you notice a hump then it's probably the tire that is not true. |
Darnold:thanx for the reply about the spashett ed. I was surffing towers web site and found an SB conversion, but don't know what it is. i looked for it again a couple days ago, but couldn't find it. Ill call trinity, probobly tomorrow and ask them about that and an instruction manual. It sucks though......that they guy i ordered it from screwed up my shippment, and sent me 7 trinity battery packs...now i have to wait a week to get my car....im exited because ive seen the 1/12 cars run and they are cool:nod:

Ben Pren- I think It would be a great idea. I need a new chassis and am pretty happy with the 12LC chassis, since it's thicker than te 12L3. I am not sure of the thickness of the graphite on the 12LC but I think it's just right; its not so thick that it's too heavy, and it's thick enough where it doesn't flex. I'll try to get you the measurement, or you could just put a caliper on Joe Zaier's chassis, he runs one too. I would like to see a cell arrangement like a trinity or a yokomo, and it seems to be where everyone else is going. You probably wouldn't have to cut a bunch of holes in it or anything, just the necessary ones, since more holes = more flex. I have a few ideas that would allow trinity and associate front suspension to be mounted, with the 4-cell layout. But your smarter than I am, so you've probably got some great ideas of your own. I'll test for you if you want!
