Is there anywhere very noticable that shows the version of the software on the Kinetic when it reads in the settings?
If you look at the bottom of the novalink window it shows what version of the ESC is connected to the software. Mine says Kinetic 1.1

I agree that the software itself should list the version somewhere, but the controller version is clearly visible.

Just got the link today. I got it fired up and all I can say is Tekin should look at what you have done and copy it. Anyway, just kind of curious why it read the RPM range and timing range as out of range. I had been setting this with the lights on the controller and I was set to 5500 rpm start, and 30 degrees according to the lights. But when I plugged in controller it gave me an error and said the timing and rpm parameters where out of range. It also read the wrong drive frequency and break frequency.

Not sure why but I updated the controller from the novalink and it seems to be fine. Just kind of odd.

I got all the same errors when I first connected to the NovaLink and I didn't even have any timing set, I think it's just a one time thing.

Mark, do you have a NovaLink to plug in to? If I had known you were having issues I could have come over for some "Wednesday Worlds" to try and give you a hand.

Default Blown motor

I was testing my new Kinetic ESC yesterday with the following setup on a large tarmac circuit:

GM 10.5 Motor
40C 5000mAh Lipo
FDR 5.6
55* Timing with boost
Timing point was 9.5K

After 2 mins temps looked fine, around 78*C. I was just about to bring it in for another reading 2 mins later and performance fell right off so I pulled it over and smoke was coming form the motor and it read 109*!!!

Right up to the point it cooked performance was brilliant, loads of acceleration and amazing top speed.

Is it possible to safely use the 55* and boost mode or will it always cook motors? Was my FDR too high?

yeah it's way too agressive, especially if you mash the throttle a lot. The boost timing needs to be configurable as Max (60 deg) is too much, especially for 10.5t. There will be a lot of motor meltdowns until this is configurable i think.

i was running:
timing: 30
start 12000
end 30000
no boost
LRP X12 on the 0 timing insert.

temps were 70C after 5 mins (with a motor fan) on a cold night.

This is a tight track small straight.
