I would suggest replacing BOTH blocks.
|
TP > thanks for the rear toe fix, i know i did it that way. You racing tomorrow or this weekend? HP is on the 10th :)
Cant wait to try the one way trick. next time i blast the bearings. |
The problem with taking the seals out of the bearings is that by the end of the day they arn't as free as they were with the seals in because of the dirt that got in the bearings.
In the tranny tends not to get dirty but in the hubs, even with just the inner seal removed somehow dirt seems to get in. |
Removing the seals WILL require you to do maintenance a bit sooner than if you didn't remove them, but, the performance difference should make up for that.
I will be at the HP race this weekend... I heard it might rain Thursday...hope that comes and goes before the weekend!!!! |
After hearing about TP's holy grail of transmission freeness, I decided to see if all the hours I put into freeing my car up paid off. I took the motor out of my car, spun the front wheels forward, and "whalla", the shaft moved about a 1/4 turn.:D
|
Jack, here`s a couple of things you can do to "free up" your ride that was`nt mention...
* make sure you have installed bearing spacer`s on the outboard bearing hubs...(make`s a big differents) * check the gear mesh in both transmissions, if the gear mesh is set to tight you what to slim the gears so they spin freely... *remove the rubber O-rings from the drive shaftcups... Check all of your bearing`s especially the front outboard bearing`s..... After you have done all of this you will still need to run the car a few pack`s to break in the gear`s again..... Hey Tony, Mind spins so free you can get it to spin by blowin on the spur gear.( and thats with-out a one- way)......:D |
How does taking the o-ring out of the drive cups free everything up?
|
Removing the o-ring`s dos`nt free up everything...
It help`s though... Stops the drive shaft from binding when it rotates.... |
I would NOT suggest removing the o-ring. In a frontal crash, the o-ring prevents the shaft from slamming into the drivecups which will almost certainly result in a broken shaft. We ran the car alot in the beginning with out the o-ring found that this little .25c part will help prevent the shaft from breaking.
Free just by blowing on it, huh??? Have to try that.... The Blow Test. I like it...heh heh |
This is rated PG site. No blowing TC3's.

Reedy Race
Tony,
Hey have you ran at the Tamiya track yet? (Site of the Reedy TC Race) I was wondering what you thought of the surface, what the dimensions are, and what the general layout is like (sweeping, tight, mix, etc.) Any idea what the AE host hotel is going to be? A few of us should be making the trek out there come May, and I need to start mentally preparing :sneaky: ... -Brent |
I ran at the Tamiya track a couple years ago before I had sponsors. I was trying to win the trip to Japan (which, when I finally borrowed a friends car, I probably could have). My car was just crap that weekend. You cannot run any car on that track except a Tamiya car. BOOO!
As I understand it, they are closing the Tamiya track to redo it. Larger, more pit spaces, and bleachers. It's gonna become a true first class facility. Until then, NO ONE is allowed on it so not to take a 'home track' advantage (Tamiya drivers could get hundreds of battery packs on their cars while others couldn't - because it's a Tamiya track). So, not sure yet. And sorry, not sure of the hotel, either....this is one of the first BIG races I'll be heading to that I can go HOME after each night of racing....happy about that! |
The Reedy Race:
Tamiya recently repaved their track right before the 3 hour enduro race. Attached is a link to some of the pics I took a few months ago. The track is smooth and freshly paved. The rumor is that Tamiya is happy with their track and they are not redoing it for the Reedy race. If that's the case, I have a TA04 that I can rent out to run at the track. The bigger question is: are they gonna make us use them crappy H13 tires again??? http://www.geocities.com/lingkang_tong/Tamiya.html -ling |
I live about 2 miles from the Tamiya track. If they are going to remodel it, they haven't started yet. At least it looks the same to me.
As far as hotels, there really isn't anything cheap in the area. People will probably have to stay around the El Toro area. I mean, you could stay at the Ritz Carlton if you wanted to. Its about 5 miles away and $400 a night. HMMM!! Maybe I'll rent a room out and make some money...... |
TPhalen - regarding the 1-way (in back and/or front). Would a
combo diff/1-way device help with the backwards 1-way in the rear? Since slippers are not allowed, it seems that the diff action would help prevent one tire from breaking loose and giving more rear grip on power. Likewise, would AE consider the equivalent of a pulley 1-way (in a traditional 2-belt car)? Maybe a slipper-like device like what Schumacher had on their adjustable one-ways on the Axis, but adapt it to the shaft drivetrain. Or the "clicker" of the Street Weapon. They would have the advantage that one could dial in the amount of 1-way as needed if the diff 1-way is too much. |
