I'm in a similar boat, just in the process of replacing the NiCD/Brushed config with something a bit more modern. The tweaks you've made look good, although I didn't see an option to specify TC4 shock towers. Not that I have them, but I might do so eventually :p

I think the TC4 towers have 4 holes right? So you can use the sheet as is for TC4 towers, by using the 4th hole on the rear TC3 tower (the hole for the body post screw).

The TC3 towers are funny. Right now I have the composite ones on my car and just by the weight of the car resting on its wheels you can see the tower flex a little bit. I'm reluctant to install TC4 towers, because I'm cheap and it makes the car look too much like a TC4, haha ! ;)

What's hard to find these days is the blue TC3 parts. There were many by associated and other aftermarket companies too. A friend of mine took all his blue stuff and all of mine an created this one. Its as blue as we can get it. So, if you have any BLUE stuff, you want to get rid of, let me know! LOL

Well I managed to do it. With a 6200mah pack the car sits at 1445 grams. I actually had to add a 7 gram lead weight! I still havent put on the carbon rear tower, or the titanium hinge pins, so more weight loss is possible.

I'm sitting at 1425 grams with a 5000 mah lipo. I'm running the LTC-R lightweight body. I am having great results running a 13.5 setup.

Wow, the TC3 is alive & well!!!
Just pulled mine out, haven't run them since the early 2000's when my son & I used to race them.... Now it's the grandkids turn, I've still got boxes of parts, def time to resurrect them!!

Way to go Cap! The process of rebuilding and relearning setups has been very satisfying. The fact that this chassis is still competitive against todays onslaught of technical wizardry is mind blowing. Sure beats spending $400 on a new kit. Although, the new Serpent rig looks very interesting. Have fun with the grandkids sir.

Switch to a blitz(0.5mm) gsf v2 and you will lose 30+grams instantly, getting you down to 1395grams or less.... In addition, you could use tape to secure your lipo pack, and shave another 12 grams , bringing you close to the 1380grams minimum weight.... Cheers....

I went to install the TC4 braces onto my TC3 last night since there's been much talk about how there are much more adjustment options with them. I've noticed that even when using the short black ball stud with no spacers, the joint sits much higher than the stock TC3 setting. Hopefully I like the higher positions on the track, otherwise I'll have to go back to the old parts.

I also broke one of my rear suspension arms by screwing in a 0.300 ball stud for the lower shock mount - the thread is about 1mm longer than the hole in the TC3 suspension arm :(

Roar minimum weight went down to 1350grams, so you will have 75grams to shed fast..... BERT mods ????
Lighter body, battery, servo, drivetrain, diffs/spool/axles, dogbones, screws, etc, .....

For what it's worth I have three of the super light bodies. I run on medium to large outdoor tracks and I run 21.5 and 17.5 TC. The bodies flutter. I will not be purchasing the 55 gram +/- bodies again. I will purchase the 85 gram bodies +/-.

bertrandsv87 10-05-2016 07:21 PM

I think these superlight bodies were designed mainly for indoor carpet racing, not outdoors... You also can try the foam body post dampers(tight body pins) in addition to extra foam on the front bumper to minimize the fluttering effect...

Or you could just use a functional body. There's no use compromising the performance of many aspects of the car just to reach minimum weight. It's a minimum requirement, not a maximum. I've seen people cut their lap times by adding weight.

The easiest way to cut weight without too much compromise on a TC3 is to use a shorty battery and mount the ESC on the battery side to balance weight. Unstable bodies, custom fabricated drivetrain components etc are not reasonable recommendations.

The one guy who has researched how to lighten a TC4 (many can be used on a TC3), more than anyone is Burt.

Race application, some don't work, some work very well.

I think most of us are aware already, I've seen his TC4 suggestions referenced in just about every TC thread I've seen on here.

it pointless if you are not racing....cant give advise if the advise you give isn't tested
