Re: threaded shock bodies
Originally posted by tc3rookie when u get the threaded shock bodies they come as just the body and collar. would using the stock caps, shafts, pistons etc, be detrimental to preformance, or would alluminum caps and coated shafts make much of a difference? Just my 2 cents, John |
bladder caps.
I agree, Bladder caps makes shock building consistancy much easier. Another tip would be to make sure all 4 shocks are the same lenth. When I 1st put my car together (rookie move) I screwed on the ball cups in further on some shocks then others. When I rebuild them the next time, I took calpiers and made sure that when fully extended, they were the same length from end to end.

Originally posted by Nexus tc3rookie. unless your running at the highest pro level IMO you won't notice a difference with the coated shafts. as far as the caps...run the black plastic one's...even the sponsored racers are using them. i'm about to post my shocks and some other tc3 parts in the forsale section if you are interested. Ray p.s. I also need another NTC3 steering rack w/ bearings and some wheel bearings. Got those too? |
The coated shafts are not soo much a performance part, although AE will tell you it is, it is the fact they will last SOOOO MUCH longer, i doubt anybody can tell the diference between a pair of new steel shafts and coated shafts. I ran steel for a while, and while nothing was wrong with it, i just had to replace more shafts due to the micro scratches from dirt and dust. My unbotainium shafts still look like new from almost 8 months of racing.
one question, has anybody tried MIP's gold shock shafts, and how does the wear characteristics compare to the Unbotanium shafts. |
I know that on my B4 when I was running it the standard steel shafts ccored and scratched like mad. You had to rebuild the shocks alot! I got the nitrate coated ones and rarely had to touch them.
I have the nitrates on my TC3 and have yet to need a rebuild on them since I traded for months now (not counting oil wt. changes). Nitrates (Gold/unobtanium) shafts are the way to go, who needs extra maintence. Scott |

I've never had any problems with my Irrgang diffs. They're still as smooth as the day I built them. If you're having troubles with them, my suggestion is go here: http://www.teamirsrc.com/techtips.html
