To strart, I apologize if this specific question has been asked, but my search did not show up the answer I'm looking for.
F1 at my local track is blowing up.
I have a F104 with Exotech upgrade, but I'm still at a clear disadvantage compared to the 103s and 109s wider stance.
We don't want to separate the classes by chassis, so we run together.
I'm looking to change my front end to the 103 and the rear to the wider 103 tires.
I have a healthy stock of tires and parts for the 104 and need to know what I can still utilize for the conversion and what I have no choice to buy.
I know I need the rear tires, no choice there.
I know I need the suspension arms and longer turnbuckles.
I know the steering knuckles are compatible.
I know the springs and c-clamps are compatible.
This is the real question.
I want to try and utilize the front 104 tires I have.
Has anyone used all the same components from the 104 (kingpins and tires) on the 103 front end and made it work properly?
I know if I want to use the 103 tires, I need different kingpins because the wheels are smaller, but I want to use the 104 tires I currently have.
It would save me some loot on this conversion.
If I need the 103 kingpins , what is the Tamiya part# I'm looking for?
Anybody got the scoop?

I broke the carbon rear shaft on my F103 this weekend so I put the F104 diff and rear shaft in it. I am going to buy another F104 diff and rear shaft as a replacement. Should I get the Tamiya carbon rear shaft or the Yeah racing aluminum rear shaft? Tamiya has a steel one too.

Get either the 3racing 104 shaft or the tamiya one.
The carbon ones can snap but the aluminum shafts can get slightly bent
causing all sorts of problems.

the stock rears work great. With the B's you get to much grip after the sauce kicks in. I run 59mm rear and 61mm front motor boat style and it hooks up perfect. I know you don't like that idea but it works. You should try it next time with an old set. A/A

Yes I was thinking the same question, we run:
Budget:
Tamiya Rubber: soft rear and medium (F60 kit) in front. it works well (carpet and below 60 degrees not so well)
More buck but more grip:
Schmitzu (see TQ or the UF1 web site for part numbers) good everyplace. Alex N. won the Camarillo big UF1 final with schmitzu soft rears and Tamiya mediums.
About the old believe that the F103 is faster than the F104. Not any more, on rubber/carpet F104 is fastest (see TQ track times for the current SOCAL winter F1 series)

ok. i run the same in the rear, but a 35 shore made by "square" in the front. i actualy have too much steering in the front so i dial out some steering. are you using traction compound? if so what kind? I use Paragon ground effects. it works good. i have no problem with traction at all.

hey guys
i drove a 104 a couple of weekends back and was hooked. placed an order and set about studying this thread for info and tips. figured i had a couple of weeks to read before delivery.i am up to page 152 and much to my surprise voila,santa came early
told myself i would wait till i had finished reading before sarting the build........yeah right like that is gonna happen. have made a start and all seems good so far.
with my order i got a few spares etc with which i have a couple of questions for the 104 boffins out there
shizimu tires,what wheels do they suit(they dont fit my pimpin chrome tamyia rims

has anyone tried out the tamiya hard and soft rubber?
are the lightweight bodies prone to easy damage due to lightweightedness?

nope, those wont fit. you need to get the wheels that are made to mount foam tires in order for those tires to work.
i think the lightweight body is ok. the regular body seems to last forever. the way tamiya makes the bumpers it allows the body to survive frontal impact, and the sides seem to never get damaged.
on my rubber tire f104 i run the stock fronts and the option rears. this works good for me and the other f1 guys at my track.
