i would up you timing to 42
and up your turbo delay to .2 or .3
everything else looks good

Planning on hitting the track again after a 6-month break. I have an X12 Octa 5.0T kicking around. So I want to get this combo into my 417. What is the best software and setup to start with? Thanks.

hi have any of u guys tried the 4.5 mmm motor was wondering what is it like and what type of fdr u guys run thanks

tcb22185 07-31-2011 06:21 PM

Thanks Harold. Still Dont explane why i could only run a 8.36 fdr and every one Else Was Running a 6.2 6.3?:eek::eek:

skypilot 07-31-2011 07:21 PM

the setup you have works just fine as a base line

things to change and watch out for is dumping to much timing in the motor to soon, it bogs it down and over heats it, it can be fast but not right, play with starting rpms, play with basic esc timing, reduce 36 to 30, or up to 40 leave the turbo alone, another way to control how much timing happens is the timing ramp, 12, 18, 24 try 24 but change the how many degrees per rpm, when looking at it, the way SP has the adjustments setup, some adjustments are useless unless you have the other adjustments figured out.

a couple of weeks ago, I had a 17.5 out running a 5.5 with no heat issues, unfortunately I made the mistake of reseting the esc to radio and lost those settings without writing them down. slowing working my way back, last week i had to use a 10.5 to run with 4.5's, but i've since sold the mod car so back to non ramping for now.

good luck and happy motoring.

i turned the Ramp down to 3deg before my motor temp was 190F Way to freaking hot for my liking!

skypilot 07-31-2011 10:00 PM

using the basic setup info you posted, what was your final gear ratio, and where was the timing set on your motor. and what motor

tcb22185 08-01-2011 02:54 AM

my fdr was 8.36 motor was trinity duo 3 17.5 timming on stock mark...

do you want to run what everyone else does or make the car fast and responsive ?

The D3 setup you posted was worked out by me with a factory team driver who appears in A mains at the national level. It took several iterations to find the spot where he wasnt telling me its got no rip, too slow in the straight, etc. Once we hit the sweet spot, it went into 3 other cars of very capable drivers. Again, everyone was happy with the performance. If it is lacking speed, there is an issue somewhere within the car or the track setup is not a tight technical track.

This is telling me something is way off, or you are on a very small / technical track.

190F - 210F is where that setup runs. All four cars where coming off within this temperature range. Some were running fans, others were not and of course driving styles play a part as well (heavy brakes, etc.)

The SP D3 setup called for 1-2 ticks advanced on the motor. We found when running the 0" or stock timing mark that the lacked rip out of the corner.

If you check the Speed Passion website, there are 2 additional D3 setups from the Memphis "Beat the Heat" race which may be better suited for your track conditions. The Speed Passion / D3 combo was definitely on pace for this event in the extreme heat they were racing under: http://www.speedpassion.net/uploadfi...ll%20Sydor.jpg

The turbo ramp setting should have only a small bearing on temperature. The gearing in combination with the last setting and boost start RPM is where the temperature really comes from.

The way the settings interact means that a higher FDR does not necessarily mean lower temperatures. You have to give the timing to the motor when it wants it. you set when timing starts to be added with start RPM, the rate it is added by the last setting and say how much total timing with the boost timing setting. If you add it too early or too fast it will get hotter and SLOWER, too soon and it goes slow. You have to experiment with the last setting for your particular gear ration/fixed motor timing. Sometimes it is counter-intuitive.

As for turbo, it only comes on when all of the boost timing has been added so to make it come on sooner can lower the total boost timing (degrees) so that finishes sooner. You can also lower the last setting but that might take you out of the sweet spot explained before.

Following the advice of a very fast driver I tried running with no turbo at the weekd and after that I actually don't think it is necessary to run turbo. Try all timing in boost, find the sweet spot for your motor and the power will be smoother and the rip down the straight will be more consistent. Maybe I am wrong but I think if you add the timing smoothly as the motor needs it, the sudden jump with turbo is not necessary.

Regards

Neal

So I'm clear, you started out with a 8.36?

What is the stock mark?

Pm Keefy, Vincent. Think he used the new mod software with a 4.5 and said it was a rocket and cool:nod:
