I have ran it in both #7 and #8 geared from 5.0 - 5.8
Today I ran mainly around 5.5 on #8. The track is fast and flowing. The straight is 140 feet. Air temps were in the mid 90's with track temps at 140.
With a Novak the temps were only around 135. With a Hacker it was 160.

When you are on profile 7 or 8, do you actually see or hear the advanced timing come on while you are going down the straight away? Maybe your ESC is defective One of the tracks I race at is similar is size with a very fast layout with a couple of tight sections. The FDR you are running is close to what I use, and it is very visible and audible when the timing advance kicks in. If its not obvious to you, then I would go down on pinion size until you can see it kick in at the half way point of your straight away. My car has good low end torque and nice top end with the SPX. But when running high FDR I have noticed you don't want to let it stay on the advanced timing for too long, or you really start to heat the motor quick because of all the revs. Hope this helps

Been running an FDR of 5.95 with a Novak motor on profiel 8 and love it - its ballistic at reasonable temps but I am using an LRP heatsink/fan too.

Guys, Will i do damage to my motor if i gear it too high to begin with? Im thinking of starting at around 6.0 as we usually gear it around 5.1 for 10.5 at my track. Or should i be thinking higher like 6.5 maybe? I dont want to cook my new motor straight up. Cheers Benzaah

Does anyone have a recommendation for profile 7 or 8 on a large track running a 13.5 DUO? The straightaway is probably around 70 feet.

Rubber. My mistake...around 120 foot straight

isnt that a bit too high ??
we have a 40m straight and i use 45 to 4.6
still messing with the gearing but i never went that high ??
an i too low ?? my motor temps are about 70 degrees C ??

All I know is on a straight approx 120 feet, Im getting passed like I am standing still by a KO BMC. I was running 5.4 on profile 8 with a DUO on middle timing.

Main thing is try different gearing.Don't be afraid to try something that sounds a little too safe.Motor to motor of the same motor design, gearing is a little different for every one.I run on a track with a 135 back straight. My gearing is what I suggested.I also run with guys who ran the recent REEDY race. The guy who won made the suggestion to me for this particular gearing and I am not giving up anything to anyone there. You have to undergear before you can find out your overgeared.
